M5 Touring estate

Post by feelou » Sun Mar 06, 2005 12:49 am

Best bit of BMW gossip?
BMW is looking to use its 5.0-litre V10 in other cars, and is studying the business case for a M5 Touring estate.
Seen on What Car?. Would this a bit of a worry for RS6 owners (residuals, appeal, etc.), and would you consider switching brands?

I'd be tempted if the price was right. Not as a replacement for the RS4 though. Maybe as well as

Had a go in the neighbour's newish M5 recently and was very impressed. This surprised me as normally I don't like beemers, but quite liked his.

I guess it will depend on how they hold their money.

Sounds like fun, but even jr will admit that NOTHING is faster than the RS4 in the wet (on public roads at least). I've recently been looking to replace my second car and have tried a number of warm hatches (FWD and RWD) and the one thing they've got in common is a serious lack of traction - I take the quattro system for granted these days - its so frustrating booting it out of a junction and all that happens is a little light flashes on the dash saying TC / DSC / ESP / PSM / ETC / have I missed any?

I'd only consider one if it was 4wd. To tempt me away from my RS6 it would have to be a car which I'd rather be driving when it's 9pm at night and I need to cover 300 miles through driving rain with wife and kids on board - with the minimum of fuss.

Gary, I couldn't have put it better myself!
If your on a race track then rear wheel drive is more fun for sure but when I've driven fron Derby to Glasgow, it's late, dark, raining and Ive run out of Red Bull, I'll stick to my RS6 thanks!

Cheers, MartynC

507bhp cant compensate from the ugliness of 5 series even in M5 form and would have to deal with BMW dealer again :x

Dont think BMW will release an M5 Touring and the only option would be the Alpina B5 Touring which uses the E60 as its base but then utilises a supercharged 4.4L V8 giving 500Bhp and 700nm of torque.
