Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
Just my 2 cents..
Having owned both cars for a reasonable length of time and now having left the fold completely I think I should, hopefully, be able to provide an unbiased (although subjective) opinion even if this thread was really just a request for a drag video (sorry OP).
I owned the F10 M5 for just over a year and the C7 RS6 for a little less than that. The RS6 was far more usable, just about all of the time to be honest. It felt considerably quicker from a standstill, I never had the back end out during a simple overtaking maneuver, it handled well and felt pretty solid at all times. I never even had to think about the loss of traction in a straight line no matter what the conditions were like.
But.. If I were to choose over the two cars again (and if it wasn't winter) the M5 (comp pack) would be the car I would choose. It was more comfortable than the RS6 and it felt faster than the RS6 on a sticky summer's day from 50 up. I much preferred the M5 double clutch gearbox in manual mode at least. The HUD (which I sorely miss from both cars now) was better oriented towards the performance aspect of the car. The interior felt just slightly more solid and there was just that something about the M5 (for me) as a package that made me desire the car a little more.

Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
Seriously the M5 felt quicker having driven a mates M5 yes it was quick and not to be argued with. But the RS6 felt so much more brutal and quicker admit I was constantly in manual mode in the 6 going wild the M5 felt quick but a more smooth and linear powerband. And the car in question is a manhart M5 supposedly 800bhp but who knows but Imo certain godfather wouldn't have had trouble seeing it off and the power is probably a bit exaggerated who knows the manhart kits are 720. But anyways each to their own and own tastes

Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
Was following a M5 yesterday.....nice but can't help thinking they look too understated for me?
I've also heard they are a handful handling wise?....I'm no driving "god" and need a quick car you can just put your toe down in with no dramas in our inclement country.
For this reason is pass on the BMW....ever since I had my M3(totally different sector I know) I just can't gel with BMWs...M3 for me was the most disappointing car I've ever had.
As said each to their own.

Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
Saloon is no good for my needs on a daily basis, so this ruled out the M5 for me from the start, regardless of how comparable the two cars are.
Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
I'd say that pretty much sums up my thoughts & covers both cars well.DragonRR wrote:Just my 2 cents..

Also & if we exclude the lousy discounts Audi offer & the ridiculous way they've handled the introduction of the facelift model, i've down Audi to death over the years (see car history below). They say a change is as good as a rest so i decided to bag myself a cracking deal & drive something different for a while. I also needed to get my next car rather quickly so much preferred the 5 week build time to the crazy 6 month build time that Audi quoted.
As said above, if i had my time again i'd make the same choice but i will certainly be looking at what Audi have in their exciting stable when it comes time to change.
Lastly i track my car & find that a lot more exciting in this M5 than i did in previous Audi's, although i've not taken a C7 RS6 on track but the quoted lap times indicate the M5 is quicker round the tracks i drive (not by a huge margin mind).

Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
I too can't debate the power of that M5 or the ability/balls of either driver, however on paper & as tested the difference between 2 identically powered cars would over a distance be non existent so common sense tells me something was not matched.M1R XE wrote:Seriously the M5 felt quicker having driven a mates M5 yes it was quick and not to be argued with. The RS6 does feel more brutal off the line & is noticeably louder when in Sport/Dynamic Mode, but as you say it's all down to taste as overall the cars are virtually identical with one being quicker here & the other being quicker there. But they do their thing in quite different ways & in different packages so everyone's a winner.

Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
That's funny because it is true although with the exception of the R35 GT-R i owned i've always been drawn to Q cars & i went a stage further with my 1st F10 M5 & ordered it in Singapore Grey so it really did blend in with the mass of 520d's. Side by side with a regular F10 they do look quite different, but it's int as pronounced as with the RS's. I find this not to be a bad thing as not shouting about the fact i'm in an £80k car i'm fine with, but i totally get your point:)RS6chris! wrote:Was following a M5 yesterday.....nice but can't help thinking they look too understated for me?

Handling wise they're spot on but you do have to be a little more mindful of where/when you bury the loud pedal. The M5 has 3 Traction settings, Full On, M Dynamic Mode & Full Off. Full off is the domain of lunatics, as even on a bone dry track with lots of other peoples sticky rubber, the car loves to shake it's rear end but it is fairly controllable & predictable, however defo not for UK roads in inclement weather. MDM is a real giggle & you'd need to be pushing past where most people should to get it totally out of control as this modes allows plenty of play but has enough sense to reign in if needed. Another slight benefit is even with Traction control fully on, the car gives a little without being over prohibitive but to answer you're point you do need to be more careful than you would in an RS6.
I too was undecided about returning to BMW as i never really got on with my E60 M5 as to get the most out of it to had to rag all (mine was 545bhp) of it & that was plain scary when the weather wasn't great. When driving it sedately it wasn't pleasant so overall i never got on with the car & was unlikely to ever return to a BMW M, however due to Audi wanting crazy money to Contract Hire an RS6 i took a look across the road & am now so glad i did.

Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
Some good replies...Why is it though most M5 owners slate the RS6, "its a barge" etc etc, yet we at least can admire the M5 as a great car. I recently took the sales guys from my choosen BMW dealer out for a blast in the RS6, they have a nice test drive route with a 'speed test' straight. Safe to say ever one of them agreed the 'barge' was quicker, but even felt better for quality. I am hunting down the local M5's here...

Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
Where have you heard that? Can't say i've ever heard an M5 owner slate the RS6 or vice versa. I hear the odd unqualified comment but both cars do what they do exceptionally well. The only mud you can chuck at the RS6 with regards being a barge is it's an Estate, but anyone who knows anything will realise weight wise they're pretty much the same.Mcma1 wrote:Some good replies...Why is it though most M5 owners slate the RS6, "its a barge" etc etc, yet we at least can admire the M5 as a great car. Personally i'm not a fan of the shape/styling of Estate cars & have always preferred Saloons, but that preference is the same as i prefer cars in the colour Blue or White, so is purely a personal preference. If i was needing or wanting an Estate then the RS's would be top of my list.
As regards Salesmen, i've yet to find one who has the slightest idea on what their competitors cars are like so i'd expect the BMW sales mush in question was expecting your car to merely be an S-Line variant & thus was somewhat surprised. They'd also expect their Brand to be the fastest car on the planet (heard this so many times it's laughable). Had an Audi dealer (not my local one) when i was looking to change from my GT-R to a new A8 try to convince me the S8 was quicker than the GT-R. I did try briefly to point out his incorrect point but it fell on deaf ears as he believed the S8 was the fastest Audi on the market which was amusing given i'm sure the RS6 & R8 are faster:)

Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
wasnt there a 5th Gear episode where they dragged the S8 and R8 and if memory serves well the S8 nipped it (although prob the v8 R8) - of course the test massively misses the point of what happens when you get to a corner and so forth, but for the masses its the sort of headline that would stick in their heads.W8PMC wrote:Had an Audi dealer (not my local one) when i was looking to change from my GT-R to a new A8 try to convince me the S8 was quicker than the GT-R. Re: Rs6 vs M5 drag vid, anyone??
Now you've mentioned that it does ring a bell, however you'd hope it would have been against an R8 V8 & that must have been a while back, but to be in the trade (this was an Audi Salesman) & think the S8 is not only faster than a GT-R but also to assume it's the fastest car that Audi produce as this was only 3yrs ago.GLM wrote:wasnt there a 5th Gear episode where they dragged the S8 and R8 and if memory serves well the S8 nipped it (although prob the v8 R8) - of course the test massively misses the point of what happens when you get to a corner and so forth, but for the masses its the sort of headline that would stick in their heads.W8PMC wrote:Had an Audi dealer (not my local one) when i was looking to change from my GT-R to a new A8 try to convince me the S8 was quicker than the GT-R. The manhart one runs different turbos etc that's the only one in the uk. It's up around 800hp shocked it didn't pull on the c6. My mates m5 with tune and exhaust sits tight with my gtr. Surprisingly quick

What you aren't saying here Golfather is that you had OVER 800bhp and 4WD! The M5 never had a chance. Not really a fair comparisonGolfather wrote:Owned off the line... waited for him to catch up on the bottom bend, then handed his ass back to him on the 2 mile straight...S4Player wrote:The manhart one runs different turbos etc that's the only one in the uk.
