Software updates etc
Software updates etc
My car was at the dealers for the last two days.
[1] TSB Link Idle pulley TSB - This TSB resolves the horrid noise you get for the first minute or so when it's cold.
[2] TSB Link Afterun coolant pump - This runs a coolant pump after the ignition is turned off. It only does it when the car is very hot but I though it was worth getting done.
[3] The Throttle s/w update. This makes the thottle more useable i.e. it gets rid of a lot of the jerkiness when you're trying to progress in stop/start traffic. I had AMD remove the chip last week as this can't be done with the car chipped (apparently). My wife just picked me up from the train station and she said it's smoother. I drove for about 6 miles with a mix of dual carriageway and some queueing traffic. Based on this short test drive I'd say that it is definately worth having it done. It's as if the 0-100% of throttle is now over the whole range of pedal travel. This means when I wanted to slightly increase or decrease speed I could do so without any lurching. It seems the throttle is no longer over sensitive. I've yet to plug in VAG-COM to check the throttle body settings but so far I am really happy with having it done.
The next stage is return the car to AMD to get rechipped. I intend to have a dyno before and after as I thought it would be interesting to compare a full Milltek system (dps, cats, rear box) with this plus the AMD chip.

RE: Software updates etc
Definitely getting 1 & 3 done at next service, the problems you've highlighted under (3) have got worse with mileage.
RE: Software updates etc
Ahhh... but if I go into a dealer, what exactly do I ask for - specifically with the 3rd one, which I find to be a problem...
(and how long does it take?)

RE: Software updates etc
My dealer said there was no software update. Stick this part number under their nose and they sort you out!

I've no idea how long it took as they had the car in for the idle pulley change. They'd never done it before and after I moaned that I never get the car car within the quoted time I think they played it safe and said two days. I also got an A3 Sport instead of the A2 as I mentioned I wasn't happy with that as a courtesy car.

Re: RE: Software updates etc
Just to get it straight, thats the part number for the 3rd item? Not the pulley?Scotty wrote:My dealer said there was no software update. Stick this part number under their nose and they sort you out!

I may see if they've a TT they can lend me for a couple of days

Hmmm I wonder where my nearest Audi dealer is.
RE: Re: RE: Software updates etc
Message left with Hitchen. I presume they're OK to deal with. I've not been to an Audi dealer round here (only Newport, Cardiff and Ipswich) and my "local" one (St Albans) has closed down...
RE: Re: RE: Software updates etc
That's the part number for the CD for the s/w update. For the idle pully, just wave the TSB I've linked to above under their noses.

RE: Re: RE: Software updates etc
I would if they could be bothered to call me back. Feckers.
RE: Re: RE: Software updates etc
Good info Scotty.
Did you get the transmission s/w done ? Did you notice much of a difference ?
Also did the car feel much slower without the AmD remap but with the throttle s/w ?
Be interested in seeing your pre-remap figures as I feel my car has gotten slower since the various updates. I can certainly evidence this to being roasted on the road by cars that shouldn't get anywhere near me. By example these inlude the new Golf GTi and rather worringly a beetle 1.8T.

Address this straight away!
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Software updates etc
I think the S4 makes you feel like you have oodles of torque and can be lazy and not stir the box with your left hand from time to time. I've certainly found this isn't the case, and the mods I've got mean I'm actually changing gear more. However, with a short shift kit fitted, at least doing that is more fun and less tiring than before...

Re: RE: Re: RE: Software updates etc
No transmission update done as they couldn't find anything about itJackS4 wrote:Did you get the transmission s/w done ? Did you notice much of a difference ?

The car feels not as sharp without the remap. It feels like it's not spinning up as fast but I wouldn't say it's major.
I'll be interested in the figures as well. Hopefully get it done in a week or so.
p.s. The afterrun mod has thrown a DTC that I've found via my VAG-COM. It says open circuit on the after run pump which I think means it doesn't have one!! I've emailed my dealer and asked them to look into it and why the DTC wasn't spotted

My car is booked in for 1.
As for 3, they are being very sticky!

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Software updates etc
How can they be difficult when you have a part number for the fault fix. Keep pushing. It's worth having done.

Scotty
Can you tell me what the throttle software upgrade actually does? I hope that it solves the flat responses which my 03 car has.
Audi UK are now telling my dealer that the part number quoted does not exist! This just gets harder!
Thanks
