GmbH suspension for S4

Post by Nige_RS4 » Mon Mar 17, 2003 1:24 pm

Anyone know if GmbH do a suspension kit for the S4, as I've heard good things about the RS4 GmbH stuff ?

you can use RS4's suspension kit.

That's interesting, I always understood that the suspension was completely different? Whats' the difference between std S4 and std RS4 suspension i.e. ride height, stiffness etc..

TIA, Nige.

yes...I do. I have OEM RS4 suspension on my car
is that enough? I get you pictures this evening.

there is about 20mm difference in height. I get it from Germany and paid 200euros for it, it showed up to be trash....so I had to get bilstein dumpers instead, but I did use the springs. Anyway I had it on my car for a short while. I can take pictures of my old dumpers lying next to the RS4, together with a close up on the part numbers. Have patience and I'll do it.

I remember a discussion on this topic back on RS4.org, do you?

john...excuse me, but I don't follow...
If I can use OEM RS4 suspension I recon I can use Gmbh's as well. Am I correct? it's just lower and much stiffer.

Only implying that the height my be a problem, not sure if the RS4OEM is low enough already, and that extra 5mm might have a problem on the S4.... But im only stabbing in the dark here
Also have my old OEM RS4 suspension which has done 12000 mls open to offers on that.
Cheers

hmmm.... I don't recon OEM RS4 susp. be to low. And I've seen S4's much more slammed.

Not joining the debate on whether or not RS4 springs and dampers work on an S4, as I'm a firm believer in mounting suspension components designed specifically for your application (i.e., kits for the S4 are generally R&D'd for the S4's weight, power, handling characteristics, etc.). Since the RS4 is technically an S4 at the beginning of it's life, I suppose it would work ... though A4 owners who have swapped their suspension for OE S4 spring/dampers have been terribly disappointed as the S4 is much heavier, especially up front, and the spring rates and valving reflect that leaving A4s running this setup out of "balance".

However, I can't imagine the GmbH setup being lower than kits like my MTM Full! Image

Rob O...you're completely right....
you can't use susp.kit from a much havier car...
like A41.8T vs S4....

anyway difference between S4 and RS4 is much smaller...if at all....

here's a picture of how it looks like....

this is a complete set of dumpers.... there is one from an S4 and one from a RS4.... in each of pair

Keyser,

Did you carry out this work? If so did you need any special tools? An independent Audi specialist told me you need a special tool (cost £400 apparently) to drive some pins out?

I've changed plenty of suspension in my time and these don't look that different. Unless he was talking about some of the suspension arms. I think he was trying to get the labour as well as a kit out of me when I told him I'd fit them myself but get the alignment/chamber sorted when I was finished.

I can't decided on what to do about this suspension issue. I know there is definitely something wrong with the rear of the car, it skips and pops about when travelling in straight line. Despite a 4 wheel alignment check. I've just not had the time to get under the car for a real good look.

Incidentally OEM S4 rear shock from VAGPARTS are £110 each for the rears.

You could say I did, actually I assisted
My friend has a workshop where I do all my stuff... (we're fitting K04's currently )
You don't need any special tool, accept for those you need changing any other susp. on any other car. One thing, you do need, I don't know how you call it: "spring-squeezers"?
and "mounting-pistol"? (oohhh....my english is bad)

anyway...that's about it.

goog luck
