Everything on that trip was a dream for me. I even started telling everyone about a car we came across at Adenauer Forst that caused an incident, then got the video out..... no car !! Forever to be known as the ghost car.
LOL, i recall that very conversation as the guy hadn't realised Nigel's car had 2 fookin great turbos bolted on until about the 4th time of looking. I could have sworn the general opinion was they were more trouble than they were worth, but i was also getting annoyed as a variety of knob jockey's in M3's (or the like) kept binning their cars & causing endless closures.

Please Nigel, DK or Henry tell me i wasn't dreaming? :blackrs4:

Adam with the Ur-Quattro wasn't a fan of the ceramics on his old C6 at all. I haven't heard anyone have such a bad experience with brakes, which left me hoping his car was a one off. Must've been, or C6 owners the country over would be up in arms. Maybe you overheard us talking about it?

I like my B7's ceramics a lot, mainly because they don't judder. I don't know if they brake harder or fade less - I think they do, but in my hands it's impossible to know: I got fade in standard setup maybe once or twice on the road.

The pads seem to be very long lasting as well.

Cheers guys seems like majority would say they're great and worth having the odd situation were maybe bad luck one off cause issues. But other than that sounds great from RS6 class ba to b7 rs4's and R8's all seem happy, so it's gave me a bit more knowledge about them and what people's opinions were on them so thanks guys. :thumb:  what a forums about.

I drove the R8 V10 plus the other day courtesy of Audi, and I have to say it was an amazing car, and the brakes were simply the best thing about it - awesome - so much feel and telepathic stopping power. Reminded me of the front brake on my GSXR 750 K6 which were until the Ceramics on the R8 the best brakes I had sampled - car or bike.

Fantastic till they go wrong, and they do go wrong.

I've had it on 3 Audi products now and I should know better.

But when they work, they are awesome.

What are you guys doing to steel discs to have such opinions of them!? Haha..

I've not had experience driving a car with ceramics but i had no issues with steel on the trackdays i've been on with mine.. Perhaps the pads are to blame?

CCB's on R8 are outstanding, to reinforce, I spend a day at Brands recently tracking the McL 650s and the CCB's on that we're far from as good as mine!

Paul, in your defence you may have caught the wrong end of a conversation with a new R8+ owner who was at the ring and was a bit disconcerted about his nice new ceramics being grumbly after a few laps....

They can be grumpy after hard use/tracking and sometimes they squeal in damp or humid conditions (a common "issue" on R8) but brakes do that steel or CCB, it clears with a few stops on the way home from track.

Remember an RS6 is over half a tonne heavier, I can do 2 hard laps of the 'Ring + GP circuit ADAC setup with absolutely zero fade in my R8... I couldn't do that in my C6 sadly.

I would be grateful for some info on the cost of Ceramics and steels from current owners to help me decide if ceramics might actually be worth fitting on my RS6 (when - Audi permitting - I finally get to place an order). My thinking is that some man maths should see me through to persuading my tightwad tendancies that this is a wise option. All I need to know is:

The cost of a pair of steel discs (front / rear)
How long will the steel discs last with moderate / chippy driving (not track days every other week!)
The cost of pads for steel
The cost of pads for ceramics and how long they last (do pads last longer or shorter time than pads for steel?)

My man maths will be based on me holding onto the RS6 for 100,000 miles (that's about eight to ten years for me) and I am hoping that the cost of steel disks will be so high that ceramics will look like a bargain.... :thumb:

Of course, this is extremely unlikely, unless those wave steel discs are heading towards a grand a pair! I shall need to see how many sets of discs I have gone through in my Merc, which weighs about the same as the Audi but has not been subject to much heavy braking - something I plan to do a lot of in the Audi.
Thanks for any data.

Good to know i wasn't going mad as i defo heard agreement but must have been about noise & certain track conditions rather than overall performance :beerchug:
