Track day insurance

Post by J130YCE » Sat Sep 06, 2014 9:01 pm

Lads, I'm sure you have a topic on this but up for some current info,

My topic / request is twofold, one is to find out the best one day track day insurance or for one offs and secondly next year I would like to use an insurer that maybe more costly in the first instance but would include cover for a number of track days throughout the year as an extra or inclusion of the standard policy.

Cheers :biggrin3:

Just had a quick look at both those companies web sites, I'll give them a call during next week. Have you used either or had experience of? Thanks for the heads up though, just what I needed.

My B7 RS4, but new to track days ( in my own car) and don't really want to risk it, rather have some level of cover, mine would be in the mid twenties.

I'm looking to buy a purpose track day car for next year though so may not bother with insure then.

I have used cci in the past - they won't cover the rs4 under a normal insurance policy as they specialise in 2 seaters.
However they will do one off days... rough rule of thumb is £10-£20 per 1k of cover with 10% excess.

I would also advise for first track day to do a sessioned based event as opposed to an open pit lane. This way you can be grouped with similar car and similar driver experience. Also airfield days can be a good start as you are only likely to hit a cone the something big.

Realistically, car on car contact is very rare and if it does happen then the damage is relatively minor (panel damage mainly).
The big accidents are usually hitting off track scenery like tyre walls. Apart from unforseen mechanical failures, these are under the control of the driver.

As such most people insure for repair cost not replacement.

Also try pace ward - I have track cover with them as part of my normal road cover (pay an additional premium per trackday).

Rough rule of thumb is around £10 for every £000 of car value, so a £64k rs4 will cost circa £640 for a days track insurance
-------------------------------------------------------
Gone - 11/06 B7 RS4 Avant - black/black (Daily drive & kids taxi)
Gone - 05/13 B8 RS4 Avant - Suzuka grey (Daily drive & kids taxi)
Gone - 01/14 B8 RS5 Coupe - Short term car
Gone - 09/14 B8 RS4 Avant - Misano Red/Ceramics (Daily drive & kids taxi)

Current - 04/18 B9 Rs4 Nardo Grey
ZX10R Race bike - 210bhp and a few skid marks on the seat ;)

Lucky (/sadly) mines not worth £64k ! so went with REIS in the end, appeared to be better cover although a bit more £ than the others but marginal when considering the extra inclusions.

Thanks for the assistance though :beerchug:

Going to look into an annual track policy linked to the annual 'street' policy when the renewal is due next year.
