Cermaics how long do they really last ??

Post by M1R XE » Mon Sep 15, 2014 12:46 am

Hi there I'm sure mentioned before but ceramics for the C7. How long do they really last ?? And worth it, at first I was completely against them and couldn't see the point and now 50/50. Be good to hear from you guys and some people who are actually running with them.

I think that depends on how you use the car.

From my experience and knowledge of C6 and Q7 ceramic owners, heavy track use and I would expect 50-80k miles, under more normal conditions 100-150k miles, more with motorway miles.

The RS6 is a heavy car, and I would expect more miles from an r8 ceramic set under all conditions.

^^ This is just from experience, not technical fact.

I weighed the set I recently procured and they were about 30-40% worn after 62k miles.

I've no personal experience of Ceramics but was in the company of 3 R8 owners at Spa with Ceramics fitted & none had a good word to say about them:(

I would imagine 100k plus easy with ceramics, I have them on my b8 they seem great!!
Ok I'm not tracking my car but I do drive it hard and they seem very good, plus no brake dust

Care to elaborate ?

Having swapped from a Steel setup to the Ceramic one, I'm all 'for' the upgrade. From what I have read other B7 users along with the written press seem to be of the same opinion too?

Surrey hmmmm. I too have heard from only 2 people I know with ceramics to say if they could go back they wouldn't have ordered them on a C7. One being he simply doesn't use it enough and says the standard are fantastic which I also beleive after it beat the GTR in a braking test on steels, which is a valid point for him. The other was a bit more worrying from them catching fire from use on road to having to be changed by the dealers 3 days after new car picked up and some other troubles I was thinking. But then again u always get 50/50 they will be fantastic and great stopping power but I guess just depends how much will be used, etc I just wanted to weigh it up as a option as to see how long they will last. But good to hear your happy with yours on the B7. But if they do last what people are saying then I think it's a no brainer really if it equals out roughly in amount of times you'll have to replace stock. Example local demo only did 9,000 miles clearly driven hard discs been replaced not going to make up but not sure on pads that's steels. But good to hear from you guys and thanks for all the help be good to hear from Someone with them on a C7 or just in general everyday use.

As i said, i've no personal experience, but if you drip a line to the R8 owners who were on the Spa trip, i'm sure they'd be happy to share their views.

The B7 RS4 Ceramics are fronts only aren't they? I believe on the R8 it's front & rear but could be wrong.

Maybe it's only particular models that are affected & the fronts on the B7 don't have issues.

I only saw one 3 car R8 convoy at Spa, and I was in it (along with HYFR) !! This couldn't be any further from what I heard, and it spent three days with them, ring, spa, autobahn etc etc. Nothing but praise for the ceramics in these conditions.

There was a black R8 owner asking us about the sounds that come from cold ceramic disks on occasion, could have been him.

Everything on that trip was a dream for me. I even started telling everyone about a car we came across at Adenauer Forst that caused an incident, then got the video out..... no car !! Forever to be known as the ghost car.

IMO, ceramics are life savers and I wouldn't change back to steels or buy another sports car without them.

I do have full ceramics on both my cars. :biggrin3:
Too much power is barely enough.
