I asked as much as I could about the one I went to look at and was promised everything was as described. Original paint, immaculate wheels and interior and mileage confirmed. To get there and find out the mileage was out. The front wheels were missing paint and half the car had been painted by Steve wonder. It's made me realise I definately need to buy one privately. Car traders are all liars. They just tell you stories in the hope they can get you there and stitch you up. I felt like asking that bloke on Sunday to cover my fuel money!

I don't think mileage safeguards you against expensive bills mate. You can have the same failures on a 25k mileage car as you can the 128k mile car. It's all relative, so if they are both priced accordingly you shouldn't suffer huge depreciation. Quite often the higher mileage cars are in better shape than the lower mileage cars. Condition is key when buying these cars and any other high performance or rare cars. If you know the cars history and can see how it's been maintained that's even better. i never said fella that i had a problem with high mileage cars as stated, but i personally wouldnt buy one for one reason and thats resale value..if you had two rs4,s offered to you for free and one had 100k on clock and the other had 50k on clock i know which one everyone would take. obviously the higher the mileage the more wear and tear you gunna get and thats my point about opening a tin of worms.marc1 wrote:I don't think mileage safeguards you against expensive bills mate. Not sure why in this day and age 100k still has stigma with some people. What do we think the stigma point is with cars on the continent? 100km (62km miles) or 161km (100k miles)? Neither figure really has the same ring to it.
