Calling all skiing (and snowboarding) fans

Post by matthew.lewis2 » Fri Sep 05, 2014 3:15 pm

I thought I would share the details of another fab forum that I use. I have no connection other than being a forum member on there.

http://www.snowheads.com (you will need to register on the forum to see the "Snowevents" sub-forum where all the ski trips are coordinated. There are no fees as all to register on the forum)

Snowheads is populated by some of the friendliest people imaginable, a benefit of the forums popularity is that the club gets significant discount on the ski trips it organises all across Europe (it is not a travel agency!!).

Last year I took the plunge and went on my first "bash" (the name given to the various trips). It was amazing, just over 100 keen skiers drawn from all walks of life and of pretty much any age imaginable. I had a great time, from meeting in the jazz cafe at Geneva airport, the skiing, the laughs, and even how organised everything was! I'm now counting down the days till the next trip.

I've just booked my flights taking me to Italy in January for a club trip to the Dolomites and thought that whilst I was online I would just pass on this nugget of information as I know a few of us on here do like to ski.

Perhaps I will get to meet a few RS246 guys on a 'bash' in the future.

All the best,
Matt

Bro - do they do snowboarding too? The website looks a bit fisher-price but I'm sure the members make up for it.

Hi there, apologies, I'm a skier so hence my skewed post title wording!

Snowboarders And skiers alike are welcomed.

The forum could have more visual appeal but that's not what Snowheads is really about, it's the quality of the ski trips that matter and that's where Graham's (the chap who runs it pretty much single handed) time is focused.

Oh, and don't think that low cost ski trips= 5hi77y accommodation. When I went to val Thorens with the club this year the 4 bed apartments were fantastic, a good sized lounge and kitchen plus balcony for cooling off the wine and beer :). There was even a 2star Michelin restaurant associated with the apartments (Jean Sulpice's restaurant). Because of the numbers of snowheads involved (I reckon about 80 opted to go for the meal) we ate a 3 course meal here for only €50!!!

There is some pretty slick technology based organisation on the trips, such as personalised sms's that let you know where and when any lessons/guiding you have booked will commence/meet, where discounts have been arranged at certain mountain restaurants/bars, and also the ability to send sms's using people's forum username (because for most of the year that's how you remember/refer to people).

I couldn't resist the urge this weekend to get some snow underfoot so I took the family to Ski Dubai for a couple of hours, only about 140 days left until my first ski trip this season.

Shall I wear a helmet whilst skiing ? And can I put ski boots in hand luggage ?

:biggrin3:

Go on, I dare you to ask those questions on snowheads....
