Why aren't there many rs4's for sale in the north west? Or is it just my imagination?

Why limit your search to such a small area?

Last car I purchased I got on a plane and flew to the nearest airport where I was picked up by the owner. I then drove 9 hours to get it back home. Not rocket science and red bull is your friend.

Neil, travel is your friend when searching for an RS4. These cars take hard work to find the right one. Took me 5 months solid - and I mean every day trawling. Finally found one 340 miles away. Door-to-door, that's 5 trains, two days and one B&B stop. Then 7 hours drive back...

If you want to find one that is 'your's' then see the entire country as the search...

Good luck - you will find one, eventually...

Agreed! People who describe cars need shooting at times. I did that many times.

That's the real issue trying find a decent one - the 'apparent good one's' always seem to be several hundred miles away ;/

Wasted trips are all part of the learning curve I'm afraid and the more you see, the more switched on you become about asking the right questions. Getting additional photographs sent to you prior to making the trip out can help lessen the risk. For example get a picture of all the service stamps, that way you can then check the history fully and validate it, along with any further work that may have been done by the dealers.

When I looked, I also tried to tie in a couple of potential cars to view on the same day as that can help save time.

Well we did look at 4 others on the same day and only one fit the bill. And it was sold....
I asked as much as I could about the one I went to look at and was promised everything was as described. Original paint, immaculate wheels and interior and mileage confirmed. To get there and find out the mileage was out. The front wheels were missing paint and half the car had been painted by Steve wonder. It's made me realise I definately need to buy one privately. Car traders are all liars. They just tell you stories in the hope they can get you there and stitch you up. I felt like asking that bloke on Sunday to cover my fuel money!

no how you feel mate and totally agree with what you say about traders..i nearly bought one on here and he was a new site sponsor and a trader.went to see car and said i wanted it just had to sort finance out coz more than what i was gunna pay..in the 2 days that i was sorting insurance,finance etc etc he text me to say it had been sold wtf!! To say i was angry was a understatement!! But i learned my lesson and took advice from lads on here and waited and bought a cracking rs4 off a member.my advice be patient mate the right one will come.and you will know soon as you see it that its the one..good luck

Yeah thanks jay! One thing I have noticed is there's a cracking bunch of people on here and not the usual narrow minded forum keyboard warriors. If anyone knows anyone who's thinking about selling. Keep me in mind. I have cash for the right car....

I may whip myself afterwards with a Birch branch once I've submitted this; the indy dealer I purchased mine from was actually very honest and the car was, in all honesty slightly better than he described. So much so, I checked the history via the reg with a Audi dealer near me; I nearly bought a used one from them but found mine which was a much better offering, last minute and bailed. I guess he wanted keep in my good books incase I trade later on, who knows. I then found the car was SS+ and the indy didn't even know.

I laid a deposit over the phone of £500 on my credit card as, after calling numerous dealers and speaking with service advisors and Audi Uk to check any outstanding campaigns. The dealer went on to say, 'if you don't buy and you don't have to give a reason, I'll give you £600 back'. He even put it in writing. I never leveraged that as after waiting 8 days before I could make the journey - he even held off selling the car elsewhere after receiving daily calls - I made the journey and bought the car. Totally as described.

After 2 weeks of ownership, it went straight in to Camberley Audi for a health check and fixed interval service and they noticed the DRC weeping ever so slightly. Audi paid good will, and the indy dealer I bought the car from paid the balance under warranty.

So, I agree for every 10 dealers who are totally shady, there may, and I may just be one decent one... needle, haystack springs to mind, however...

If I were to buy again, I think I'd hold for a forum members car or steep history and a thick wedge of receipts...

Yeah I think you're probably right. They're not all crooks. I'd much rather buy one private. As you get a feel for exactly how it's been treated

Admittedly their stock looks a bit meagre at the moment - when I had my RS4 from there, there were many M3's, Merc's etc...
