I thought Audi recommend 98 for all FSI engines?S4WON wrote:Nah, sadly i downgraded to a B8 S4 a few months back. Treat 'em mean to keep em keen!
Even before FSI I could tell the difference in power and flexibility between 95 & 98 on my previous B6 S4.

Handbook, sticker and all that has 95 all round on my '11 s4.
I'm pretty sure it's been fed that its whole life and still pulls, i hardly use it now tbh so as long as the wife doesn't put diesel in it I'm happy!

Re: fuel gauge?
On the RS4 they recommend 98, but say you "can" use 95 - but the difference in performance is very noticeable.S4WON wrote:Good question.PetrolDave wrote:I thought Audi recommend 98 for all FSI engines?S4WON wrote:Nah, sadly i downgraded to a B8 S4 a few months back. Treat 'em mean to keep em keen!

Not only that but on any FSI engine 98 usually gives approximately 10% better fuel economy compared to 95 for two reasons - the lower sulphur content means that cat cleaning cycles happen less often, and it can stay in stratified mode for longer. So if 98 is less than 12-13p more expensive than 95, then it actually works out cheaper per mile to use 98. Strange but true...

That might be why I'm getting rubbish fuel economy then. Worth a shot, thanks!
Oh, is it true that you need to run a few tanks through before the ecu "learns" the new map, or is that an urban myth, BS?
Re: fuel gauge?
I've stopped using V-Power even though it's 99. TESCO Momentum 99 for me. I can feel a distinct difference between that and V-Bastrd - Sevenoaks Tesco 99 is only £1.30.9 Per Ltr.MikeFish wrote:Gulp!!!!!!!geordie jay wrote: its £135.9 gallon in newcastle
After the MRC Stage 2, it luuurves 99. I'll never stick 98 in again and just plan fuel stops around that
And to add, I think yellow tank symbol appears at 50 miles - and you can still access the 'range left in the tank' via the menu whilst illuminated.

Yeah, I've got a Shell card and frankly, I've received no quarterly bonus - working from home means I don't burn enough squirt - if ya get me drift!geordie jay wrote:i get treble points!!!!
Yeah - Tesco 99 available at 99% Tesco stations. Doug at MRC had better results on 99 than V-B'stard on mine. I swear it's different... or placebo... who cares. It makes it go quick!

Re: fuel gauge?
I went on a family holiday to France the other week, I live near Epping North London and got to the house in Normandy in some little village with 10 miles left in the tank, after some broken french to the lady in the local Shop I found out the nearest petrol station was 14 miles away.
The next day I did the most economical drive ever, coasting down the hills etc etc and made it after driving in the 0 miles on the dash for about 2 mins, the scary thing is it goes down in increments of 5 miles, so if it says 15 miles it could actually only be 12 left in there.
Over the holiday I filled up twice more and again when I got back to Dover, my mate had a 2l BMW 3 series and filled up once on the way back and that was it….
He still wants an RS.

Re: fuel gauge?
Never quite worked out if this is true, a fuel tank empties from the bottom, would expect any crap in the fuel after a fill to be the first to be sucked out, am I missing something?Ranger Rico wrote:don't do it it will be all the dirty fuel at the bottom.
