18mths is a long ownership for me:) The GT-R is far more than good pub ammo & is a genuine Supercar slayer which no RS/AMG or M can ever claim to be. Most GT-R critics have never driven one & certainly never owned one & those that have & are still critical usually bought it as the 'the must have motor' but couldn't get to grips with the car so moved it on. I was out with a bunch of GT-R owners last night & several of them still have an original MY09.

I find your comment 'fast glorified washing machine' interesting, but again i can only assume you've never owned one. A bit rough round the edges? yes, glorified? certainly not. Can accept they're not to everyones taste, however even that's limited as have never owned or been in a car that got as much positive attention & feedback as my GT-R. That too can become tiresome when in a rush & virtually everyone wants you to floor it at every opportunity:)

As a daily driver they're fine but for high mileage use they do become a bit tiresome & depending on what pipes are fitted, motorway cruise speeds can be a tad noisy. The costly aspect is due to consumables if doing big miles, however the same would apply to most M/RS's (although granted they're more comfortable).

I too prefer an all rounder but if you took a poll then the GT-R would win all day long as the preferred car (for most people) & is a car that every petrol head should own at some point as they're that good & an outstanding feet of engineering.

not saying theyre not a weapon, maybe my comment should have been as you say rough around the edges, its the interior for me, still looks like th e old 300zx switches and interior just jazzes up a bit.

no i have never owned one ive had look at one but its not for me, id rather have a V8 R8 for the same money
Totally agree, the interior does let the car down a bit but given what it can do, what you get & at what price, having a less than opulent interior is really only a minor issue (to most).

Would be a very tatty R8 at £40k & to be fair the interior of that would be well over 10yrs old at best as back then you're looking at a C5 RS6+ interior on the R8's. Lovely looking motor though but way too slow by todays levels.

I did the opposite.. GT-R to C6 RS6

I miss the ridiculous performance, exterior looks and road presence.

I do not miss the 6-month servicing (2010 car) and having to constantly get it fixed (8 warranty claims in 18 months from new, including one which had the car off the road for about a month). Warranty renewals are £2k+ I think, and only a handful of dealers that you can trust (Ancaster Bromley was excellent if you are around London). I found the poor dealers to be significantly worse than the poor BMW and Audi dealers I have had the pleasure of using.

The brakes and paint are made out of butter (managed to warp 2 sets of front discs with road driving plus one Millbrook day - 15k miles in total)

It did, however, make me do a lot of journeys I did not need to do... with a big smile on my face.

Just make sure you get one still under warranty!

You've been unlucky then because in nearly two years I've never needed a warranty. My cars a 2010 and the 6 month servicing isn't required in fact the likes of litchfield etc all offer annual servicing. Buy one with the correct upgrades ie brakes and you won't need to do anything other than drive and enjoy the car [THUMBS UP SIGN]

yeah I had a shocker

paint peeling off, bose amp died, door lock failed, bell housing replaced

front splitter and bumper damaged whilst with dealer...

if it wasn't for those issues I'd still have it now for sure. nothing for that price comes close
