Re: RS4 B7 Engine Strip
Happened to a few engines now, not seen a tumble flap retaining screw though before, normally core plugs when pratts re-use the core plus.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: RS4 B7 Engine Strip
What I don't get is why you'd remove the core plugs in the first place ?
Re: RS4 B7 Engine Strip
Only way to get the intake manifold flaps out.
Re: RS4 B7 Engine Strip
Ahh, I see. I guess that would have become obvious when I tried to take the flaps out. At least now I can order them in advance. Do they need pressing in or can they just be tapped in ?
Re: RS4 B7 Engine Strip
Just chap them in with a socket of the same size that fits inside the core plug
Red B7 RS4 Saloon......That is all!!
Re: RS4 B7 Engine Strip
That's what I was thinking. I don't want to thread jack but another question whilst I've got your attention ! Do I need to leave the shaft in that turns the flaps ? I assume that I do so that the position sensor still thinks they are operating ? Or is there another way of doing it ?
Re: RS4 B7 Engine Strip
yup - as long as the sensors move they will not trip anything.RS6BRIT wrote:That's what I was thinking. I don't want to thread jack but another question whilst I've got your attention ! Re: RS4 B7 Engine Strip
It's possible to remove the flaps without removing the core plugs, with a very low profile ratchet, I've done it before - but it's fiddly.
I've been running without manifold flaps and fins for about 6k without any issues. No discernible difference in cold starts, cold running or idling.

06 Phantom Black Saloon:
DONE: Water Meth Injection, Carbon clean at 64k, CAI, Gutted Precats, Non-res x-pipe, H&R 8mm spacers, H&R springs
^ GONE
