Is my RS6 Possessed?

Post by Kev.S » Mon Feb 21, 2005 7:50 pm

I seem to be having a number of electrics-related glitches at the moment. On turning start-up I can get a variety of fault warnings, mostly the brake warning symbol. If I turn off and then start up again the warning doesn't repeat itself. I've also had low pressure warnings for all four tyres at the same time on a number of occasions, but when checked the pressures are fine.
Most worrying was on Saturday. I parked the car in the drive and locked it. When I returned to the car three hours later, it was unlocked and 3 out of the 4 windows half wound down. I know that you can wind the windows down if you hold the unlock button down, but surely all 4 would be down if this had happened while the keys were in my pocket?
Anyone else suffered from any of these problems?

This sounds to me like a battery that is not holding its charge for a long period. I would get the dealer to check the battery although this does take up to 2 hours as they have to charge the battery for 2 hours then look at the discharge characteristics.

Hi Kev

The windows down thing is a pain and can easily happen if you squash the keys a bit in your pocket when you are sitting down. Anyone know if this feature can be disabled? I find it a real nuisance.

Doesn't account for only 3 windows down however! As regards the tyre sensors, they will give false alarm signals if another rf signal is present at switch on from say an automatic gate opener transmitter....Just a thought.

hope you sort it. Cheers, MartynC

I have just had the same problem but on my rs4, dealers have replaced the brake fliud reservoir as they think the float level was sticking slightly and the self diagnostic on start up was picking it up as a fault. It bleeped at me 4 or 5 times then the light went out, if I turned the car off and started it again it was fine. Cant tell you if it has fixed it or not as I have only just had it done today.

I would only be really concerned if the warning display stays lit on the dash.
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

The battery should be fine as it was replaced under warranty three weeks ago and the vehicle is charging okay.

I've heard of the tyre pressure warning glitch a number of times. I understand that it should go if you just restart the engine, having taken the key out. The 3 out of 4 windows trick is pretty impressive though. I used to find all 4 windows down when I first bought my S4 and in fact the guy who delivered my RS6 made a point of warning me about the sensitivity of Audi key fobs. But why only 3 are going down on your car totally beats me. Maybe it is possession after all - wasn't it Sherlock Holmes who said that once you have ruled out everything impossible, then whatever is left, however unlikely, is the solution?

I have had all your problems with my plus apart from the window issue - as someone has already said I think i would only be worried if the lights stayed on permanently.

I have experienced both the tyre thing and the window thing. Actually, I only noticed the window thing a couple of days ago, when I did I thought to myself "T*****R you left the windows open!" All four of them were down by about 2 inches. Now I have a more plausible explanation. Both problems seem to have 'gone away'. Now that it seems to be a common problem :audibash: I'll have to more vigilant! Last thing I need is to find a flock of pidgeons nesting in the back seat some morning!

Windows thing has not repeated itself, but put the 3 out of 4 due to the sticking driver's window. Now the boot has started to open itself when I drive along, especially after negotiating speed bumps (no I'm not yumping it!) - hopefully a two minute adjustment job with a screwdriver. No doubt I'll find out when I take it in for service on Thursday!
