New potential owner & in need of advice?

Post by dj.hanks » Wed Aug 20, 2014 10:22 pm

Hi all, this is my 1st actual post.
Im looking on buying my 1st RS4. I'm looking to spend upto about £18k.

I have a fair few questions id like to ask (my phone wont searxh on here for previous posts so sorry in advanced if people think im been lazy).

1) is there anything wrong with high milage engines? I know things like wear and tear will be more but are these bullet proof?
2) ive seen a Cat D 1 that has been stolen recovered, its on 51k, full audi history and up for £16500, is that a fair price on a Cat D of these or should I stay away?
3) I keep reading this suspension issue, was there a call back on them? If they haven't been called back, what are the chances itll be needing work doing to them soon?
4) im after the wingback seats and also want a Milltek system but struggling to find both together.
For now, what would be the more beneficial option with costs or benefits?

Thanks in advanced and all replys will be taken in (Y)

Saloon or Avant?

If you have 18k to spend don't buy a Cat D! That kind of money buys you a good saloon. Avant still seem to hold a premium

Saloon: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=111113

Avant: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=110892

(thread deleted following sale, was Phantom Avant with Milltek and about 65k @ 18,500 from memory, looked very clean indeed)

Just follow Ian's advice above - you won't find a cleaner saloon that Ads' - if you don't buy it then I will (and then I'll have two).

Just seen that - it makes me sad as that's a great car for good money and I missed it! (In fact, my sincere inability to sell a Lotus meant I missed it!)

Blimey, you've barely had that 12 weeks and currently still advertised on the dealers website?

I know sam, the wife agread to me buying it, on the agreement she would drive it aswell, she is now ready to do her test and has said she wont drive it. So it has to go in favour of a not so stupidly quick car as the better half describes it.

On looking at the link, atleast people can see what i paid, and how much im bloody loosing in 12 weeks

Congrats OP, you won't regret it.

I occasionally get wandering eyes and think "what should/would I replace mine with?" The B8 looks great but most considered opinion says the B7 is the better all rounder. I still think the B7 looks amazing in both saloon and Avant form; it's only the interior that's starting to look a little dated, though not that much. I love the sound of the C63 Merc, but the design looks rather old hat IMO, as does the lardy M5. Then I get on here and see so many great looking B7s, drive mine and think "why am I getting itchy feet". The B7 is just such a great all rounder. :)

The original idea was a C63 or E63 AMG, E90 M3 or an RS.
With it been a daily and needing it driveable the RS won hands down.

Buy her a cheap run around and keep the RS for best
