Several years ago the cyclone oil separator was blamed as the main cause of carbon build up, so several owners replaced it with a catch can system. Which made absolutely no difference to the rate of carbon buildup.
That's why we've moved on to the, still holding up, theory that carbon buildup is caused mainly by valve overlap allowed combustion products to be blown back into the inlet manifold, where they do not get washed off in a DI engine.
Please, let's not go over old disproven theories again...
