Questions

Do you think someone like lepsons can repair this? if not, ideas on where to best source a wheel
Do you think its safer to drive on this (sensibly) till its fixed or am I better off using the space saver?
tyre is not deflating, and tracking feels ok, wheel still centred, so got lucky there I think
Any other comments also appreciated

Car is a 2011, S4, 19" wheels is about all I know, can any tell me exactly what time of wheel this is if I need to buy one?
thanks

Looks like a 'peeler' - e.g. one of these
Certainly worth seeing if they can repair it. Doesn't look too bad beneath the debris, from the pic.
The tyre, on the otherhand...

If you find a reliable source selling them for only £350 each new please let me know.

Looks like the wheel has been refurbished before.

I'd think a reputable company could repair and refurbish that fine, so worth getting in contact with the likes of Lepsons. Tyre is a casualty though and I certainly wouldn't want to travel too far on that one.

Hi graham

That would be a good replacement for you perhaps, but it's not a new wheel (or at least not as new condition wise). I would buy form Germany if I had to, especially as shipping is free, but only if the seller came recommended. On the look out for these too so genuinely interested in where you manage to source one from.

That eBay link I supplied was actually for a used one. It was the closet link to hand that I thought may be of use (either as a potential purchase or simply to get the details off such as offset, etc.), having been researching these for some time myself.
However, my reason for researching was to find out the market rate for these if/when I sell my own set, rather than as a potential purchase.
Anyhow, as I said earlier, I would expect that damage can be rectified via a refurb, and probably won't cost more than around £100 to do so (for a full strip and powder coat).

I know if Lepsons try to repair that, they build up the alloy with weld, then grind and shape it back into shape - some subtle curves and lips on that - email the photo and see what they say...

I hate kerbing alloys - feel ya pain...

Thanks Nick.

Btw,dont suppose you or any other know if i need to change the tyres in pairs/by axle. My mate reckons i will need to, I'm hoping otherwise!

The other front tyre has about 4mm left... Only need to change 1?

If funds are tight at the mo, perhaps try to get a part worn that matches the 4mm.
Personally, I'd get a couple new GY F1s from tyreleader (should have change from £300), rotate them so the new tread is on the rears, and keep the 4mm as a spare.

Regarding sidewall damage to the tyres.
The outer rubber is just a protective coating for the steel cords and the inner lining for the tyre and offers no structural support.

IF (which based on the pictures seems to be a "yes") you can see either the inner layer OR one or more of the steel cords then it is in an instant MOT failure and the tyre is considered to be wrecked.

IF on the other hand the inner structure can not be seen when peeling the rubber back then there is unlikely to be any structural damage so you can glue it back into position.
