I had already heard that, unlike MB with the AMG range and BMW with the M-series, Audi like to keep the numbers of RS cars limited in order to support the exclusivity of the marque, but I must say that I would not have guessed until now that Audi's chosen method to achieve this would be based around offering the car for sale in a strictly limited range of dull and uninteresting colours.

Latest online brochure is June 2014 I believe. Sepang no longer there.

http://www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/audi/ ... -avant.pdf

That being said, when I first started looking, they had Estoril blue available on the configurator. Then that disappeared along with Ibis. Then some time in July, Sepang appeared on the configurator. Perhaps the brochures are just not up to date with what is actually available.

I would agree the standard range of colours is fairly bland. I was initially looking for white, but when they dropped that I went for Daytona. That more or less made me choose the black wheels too, so I may as well have spent the two grand from those wheels on painting the car white and keeping the standard rims! Though I begrudge paying extra to have a colour that is standard elsewhere in the range.

Having said that, when the car specced up with a few options can easily go north of £90k, sticking another couple on and having whatever colour you like doesn't seem too bad I suppose.

I agree the choice is limited, but I have now seen two cars in Panther Black and it's a stunner of a colour. In my opinion, it needs the Alu pack to lift it a little or perhaps the forthcoming black pack to get it all in line (haven't seen the details on that yet but I don't even think of the Carbon pack as being an option given its cost), doesn't look so hot with just the standard trims.

Well this is turning out to be depressing purchasing experience

Watford Audi : Sells the Approved Used they told me no one else was interested in to some one else
Basingstoke Audi : Speak to Sales "rep" at 10am today who promises to check availability of Test Drive for tomorrow .. has not rung me back so far, despite two calls into him

Think I'll give up now

I'm hoping to get a test drive in a car next Wednesday to compare the air suspension in the demo car I'm getting for a couple of days next week to dynamic on a car sat at another dealers.

If you are struggling getting a test in a car prior to order, then I'm going to be getting nowhere having already ordered!

I re-read the e-mail, and did some extra homework, Sepang is currently suspended, not discontinued, however, no word if/when it will become available again. The information is readily available to staff if they search for it.

If you're prepared to travel, I can work out a deal for you. You'll be kept up to date at all times with accurate information and I'll also make sure a valeter won't go near it (assuming your detailer would prep it), and sit in on the PDI, too. A test drive shouldn't be too difficult, I need to see what agreement there is on the racing mica that sold and if it is still available for test drives, if not, I can explore other avenues.

Get in touch, even if it's just for advice.

Ah, it's defiently sold. I was there when the deal was struck, someone drove down a few hours to come view it. It needs to stay on fleet for 90 days, so it will be on there to record interest in the unlikely event this deal falls through I expect.

This could be handy for people in the fortunate position of buying Audis new Amar. I've read countless stories of customers asking dealers not to touch cars and to leave the protective transportation plastics in place, only for the dealers to remove them and start hacking the paint around with a gritty sponge, one bucket of water for the entire car and a chamois leather....
