I have had a similar experience, having owned in the last few years an M3, M5 and XFR, I scared myself shitless when one damp afternoon earlier this year in the XFR....with all the nanny controls on, I barely managed to control a fishtail under hard acceleration. My mates told me to take out a Quattro.....but I'd never given Audi a second look, thinking they were bland in the extreme and hadn't got an ounce of passion in them. Boy was I in for a surprise! My local dealer just happened to have a new RS6 in the showroom which he plated up and took me for a test drive. The acceleration was like nothing I had ever experienced...it truly reminded me of my bike days, and it was relentless, in fact a bit scary that such a big car could build up such a speed in such a short time. Then the real fun...going round a roundabout at speeds I truly thought were impossible on 4 wheels.....all this accompanied by a fantastic barking of the exhaust every time I lifted off. I placed my order straight away, was quoted 12 weeks and it was delivered almost to the day. I was lucky though because in order to fast track 'the slow bit' from Tilbury to Dealership, my dealer sent out a private transporter to collect it so it didn't spend weeks in mothballs and going hallway round the country.
Alas, after just a month driving my new MY 2014 RS I realised that in my haste to get the car quickly, my dealer and I hadn't spec'd it to the exact requirements I would have liked. Although I added the Panam roof, HUD sports exhaust, side assist and a few other bits and bobs, I had not included the 21 inch wheels, LED headlights and the top view parking display and having driven another RS6 with these on IMO its a far better car. The LED lights and 21 inch wheels transform this car beyond belief and the top view park assist is a must for protecting the precious alloys.
So this weekend I bit the bullet and part ex'd it for another RS6 with these extras on...I'm quoted end of October spec, can't wait already!

Re: time between build week and delivery
Audi are turning these cars around except where there's ceramics or exclusive stuff. It's annoying.

Re: time between build week and delivery
I had red belts from the exclusive range - that sounds like why mine was so late from the build week then
