Can anyone advise me on a good garage in London that will service and change my cambelt?

interesting you recommend Dovercourt. I've just been down at DC and they quoted me £800 for the cambelt. I then rang up
another Audi Garage, and they quoted £350. When asked they said it was a 3 hour job.
One thing Dovercourt did mention when telling me that they charge £800 was that they also check the tensioners (although
I've no idea what these are)... would that seriously wack it up to £800 or are they 'aving a laff ? and... what are they and
do they need checking, and is it standard practice?

I'm not quite sure its a 3 hour job. You have to take the front of the car off!

I went to QST in the end and it cost me 800inc VAT and that was two belts, new tensioner, aux tensioner, thermostate, waterpump and the 80k service!
my guess is the DC quoted you for the Cambelt + the Full service which will include a new set of plugs too.... amongst other things!

that was £350 (for the 80k service) and £800 for the cambelt
and tensioners. so total £1150, i guess at least that included the vat
I've reconfirmed with my local garage that 3 hours was right. i'm sure i read somewhere else
that removing the bumper is not that tricky (two bolts?...).
The service rep said it was a fixed price anyway for the cam belt change (they charge 75+vat per hour)
so wouldn't go up.

3 hours!!! I did mine myself so I know exactly what's involved and there's no way anyone can do it in 3 hours. If that's a fixed price, bite their hands off.
Please make sure you change water pump and tensioner and idler, in fact everything that revolves too.
Getting the bumper/front panel off is much more difficult than it looks.

would you care to enlighten us what's involved in changing the berlt please.
I'm tempted to do it myself too, so any heads-up for special tools, or particularly tricky bits to remove would be handy.

Interesting. I'm going to get mine done in the Summer at my 60K service/MOT, and IIRC others had got the FULL cambelt work done including a new waterpump for around £800.
UKS4APR1 - remember that according to the Audi workshop book, removing the bumper should be a quick job, and for a tech who has done it many times, it should be. This has to be the basis on which the job is quoted.
I recently had my windscreen washer pump replaced by an Audi dealer. I read the tech's report and he first investigated it by removing the wheel well liner, and then did the replacement by removing the bumper. The whole cost was about £200 including VAT.
