Re: Noooo!!.. It's started. Need to replace Cat
Thanks I can sort that myself.. Once I know what it is.. I didn't realise engine mounts are monitored via error messages.. I'll check wiring 1st to see if it's been damaged or something.. Reset warning & if it comes on again I'll replace it :£
Re: Noooo!!.. It's started. Need to replace Cat
This may help explain a little more. Looks like they cost cira £200 each and then you'll need to add on the labour. Make sure you get a scan completed once you've done the work as not all fault codes reset once the problem has be resolved.

Re: Noooo!!.. It's started. Need to replace Cat
One of my guys attempted to swap the car out earlier but he's saying he can get to 2 of the nuts on the engine but not the top 2... Anybody got any expense of changing the part the thread is about. Have you got to start dropping the engine to get to it... To take off... Cheers in advance

Re: Noooo!!.. It's started. Need to replace Cat
Picking up on the comments made earlier regarding de catting the exhaust.
I had to take a works vehicle for an MOT today at the local authority testing centre.Whilst there I asked about the de cat issue, the tester told me that until recently the only thing that mattered was whether you passed the emissions test. However he said that VOSA had recently sent out an amendment stating that if the tester believes that the original vehicle as supplied by the manufacturer would have been fitted with a cat then if the cat is missing it is an automatic fail.
In short it depends on how sharp eyed the tester is or of course if you know the right people......

Jangol
I think MRC/Unit 20 have a fancy tool or similar specially to get at the two nuts - try giving them a ring in the morning.

Re: Noooo!!.. It's started. Need to replace Cat
Hi,
Rang them yesterday, they didn't mention anything about a special tool.. all they spoke about was having to remove the subframe to get at the pipe?

Give your local TPS a call for a price - most will deal with the public

Thats what they had to do with mine. Believe there are 3 nuts for the downpipe. Around 3+ hours labour depending if they are seized and need replacing too. I think they basically tilt the subframe down at the back so the whole gearbox and subframe lowers a tad (which also need re-aligning to get back in the correct place)jangol wrote:Hi,

Like I said not to late to bail..
If Grizz says subframe to get to the bolt your after, then there's a reason for it.
Engine mounts are just as bad from recollection.
A lot of labour their
Not for the faint hearted. Personally would rather not do any kind of repair like that, and would avoid a car where it was a do it yourself repair. getting a repair done by those mechanics like Grizz / MRC will ensure everything is done properly and they will tell you what else to do whilst there Stripping it down.
That's why you need deep pockets!
