Rami's
Rami's
Has anyone actually tested the difference with steels & rami's on the B8? I'm tempted to add them to my next car, and my dealer is doing all he can to sell them. They've suggested a td in either an RS6 or R8 that they have at present, both of which have them, but I'm not sure how different these will be in comparison to the rami's on the B8.
One thing I was advised today, on top of the main benefits apparently you don't get as much brake dust with Rami's. Is that true?

It's all torque talk.

Pointless unless you will track it
Re: Rami's
Agreed, the B8 it too heavy to be rewarding to drive on track. As for brake dust I'll take a tub of poorboys wheel sealant and pocket the £4k.HYFR wrote:Pointless unless you will track it
Re: Rami's
Not really!! I've had bad brake fade in my old b7 many times when giving it some, love the ramics on my b8Pointless unless you will track it
I think they are worth it, specially after some of the problems with wheel wobble associated with the standard discs
Re: Rami's
Even with updated fluid and DS2500????? You must have had an elephant on your roof rack
Re: Rami's
No uprated fluid, but had the dS2500 pads, when things get hot, you just don't stopEven with updated fluid and DS2500????? You must have had an elephant on your roof rack
Well you do but not so well.
I think it also depends on how long you plan on keeping the car for, if it's for a while then I would prefer the ramics, also makes the car more desirable for resale
Re: Rami's
I dunno. Had many a pax with sonny round the ring and remember him spending about 10hrs on castle Combe for one ADI and he had zero brakes issues on the B7
Re: Rami's
Well I used to swap with my mate Andy when he had the the orange b7 with ramics, his car stopped better for sure, having said that my b7 stopped well 99% of the time, just the odd time when braking heavily, you would notice the difference

Re: Rami's
is that 1% worth £4k and possibly due to driving outside of ability?RIV wrote:Well I used to swap with my mate Andy when he had the the orange b7 with ramics, his car stopped better for sure, having said that my b7 stopped well 99% of the time, just the odd time when braking heavily, you would notice the difference
Re: Rami's
Ramics also last ages, life of vehicle if you're lucky. Wave discs life expectancy is 15-20k and they ain't cheap to replace.
Additional man maths says 'ramics better value.

Re: Rami's
Yes it is, if that so called 1% saves you in a nasty situis that 1% worth £4k and possibly due to driving outside of ability?
And like I said if you keep the car for a long time the brakes outlast the standard discs many times over
The car will also go for more money secondhand, plus they look great!! Ask graham about the standard discs and what he thinks of them.

Re: Rami's
I didn't have great experiences with the wave discs, and just the lack of brake dust makes it worth 4k alone
They look cool too
I've driven both back to back now, and admittedly, there's very little in the day to day feel
The ceramics have a slightly better initial bite and in the car I tested, the pedal was a bit more progressive, but that could be more down to the way it was set up more than the physics of the ceramic disc (I've seen quite a lot variability in pedal feel on RS4's, including my own one after all 4 brakes were replaced)
R8 isn't a great comparison to rs4 ceramics as r8 is set up quite aggressively in my experience of a couple of v10+'s

Re: Rami's
After my mad run over down to the Riviera via route Neapolean, getting lost into Italy and back into France, the last leg took me 7 hrs instead of 3 and I drove my RS4 like i stole it most of the way and never once did i have any brake issues.
On that alone i would agree with HYFR and say you don't need them....however I'm going to upgrade the lines, fluid and pads for track use just incase for my trip to Spa and Ring later this year.
But those ceramics do look super sexy and still on the look out for a used set if anyone is trading their B8 in and wants rid - so if you can afford to spend the extra 4k i would say, what the hell, do it!

Re: Rami's
Another consideration is that a sizable reduction in unsprung weight will improve the way the wheel tracks the road, and so improve grip/handling
