Best Standing Start

Post by 23skip » Sat Jun 21, 2014 5:30 pm

Can anyway suggest the best technique to get the fastest standing start in an unmodified C6.
Is it best just to press the loud pedal or to hold it on the brakes at a specific RPM and if so will this do any damage?

No launch control so just a case of mashing the loud pedal. No point attempting to hold on the brake, that's only likely to cause the gearbox a headache.

In my experience .. dont just mash it to the floor, as it seems to dump to much fuel inside everything .. best way is in S mode of course and push quickly but fluidly on the loud pedal

...in a tuned job car she'll spin the wheels in 1st and 2nd gear (in the wet, 3rd gear too)...Launch control needs gentle and controlled right foot to get the best...

I find with ESP in sportmode it's just right, with ESP all the way off round the twisties near the limit it can be a little too unruly for me. When it was standard it was fine with ESP all the way off but now it's 704ps I just leave it in sport mode.

Must admit I never really turn ESP off?

Is it like a B7 RS4?...,limits the torque in lower gears?

Is it noticeably quicker/sharper through first three gears with ESP off?

Sportmode is activated at a press of the button. You still have traction and stability control but it allows you significantly more licence to play over standard.

Hold the button down for around 5 secs and it will turn ESP off. The biggest thing with this is the seemingly total removal of stability control which when you do turn it off is right off. Drive hard is surprising how much it's actually doing. The car feels very different with it off and to me not in a good way on the road as it's a 2+ tonnes 700BHP monster than can misbehave a tad!
