235/40's for an S4 Avant

Post by S4Avant_Owner » Wed Jan 19, 2005 9:14 am

OK guys, following my minor prang the other morning, I now find myself looking for a couple of new tyres. Annoying as all 4 were almost brand new when I bought the car less than 2 weeks ago :(

Anyways, I have P7000's on the front and Continental's on the back. As I need to replace one of each, I may well find myself contemplating replacing all 4.

If this is the case, anyone have a good recommendation? I'm thinking Continental's all round, as they are supposed to be pretty good at 'higher' speeds :D

Thanks

I was talking to Scotty last night about tyres and we were both of the opinion that Goodyear F1's would be the best option. I had them previously on my S3 and he used to have them on his TT and they were superb.
Cheers,
Daz :D

I've just gone over to Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. Very impressed indeed and really cheap at Costco!

I am currently running the Mich PS2's are they are good, definately better that the Continentals it came with but I'd defo going for F1's next time.

[1] The handling feels better. i.e. less sidewall give, steering more responsive, etc
[2] The F1's were more confidence inspiring i.e. it felt like there was more grip

Getting F1's on my new RS6 reps tomorrow. These'll be my regular road tyres and the OEM wheels with Mich PS2s will get used on track. I'm doing Castle Combe in a week or so which means I won't fit them until after this. I'll let you know how they feel after that.

Autocar did a comprehensive tyre test on 19 Oct this year with a Monaro wearing 235/40 R18 tyres (sounds familiar)

Number 1 Goodyear Eagle F1; close second Bridgestone S-0X, then Dunlop Sport Maxx then Pirelli P Zero Nero and last Michelin Pilot Sport

Costco quoted me £177.88 per tyre; Kwik Fit has/had an offer on with Pirelli £560.96 for four

Was it the Pilot Sport 2's? I have these on at the moment after another review put them about level with the F1s. I couldn't get F1's at the time so went for them. They are a vaste improvement over the Conti's. Once I get the F1s on my car (about two weeks) I'll post my findings.

I changed from the Contis to PS2s as well on my S4 and preferred them. This http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ght=#49485 thread may help.
