RS4 belt change at 40k????

Post by FrankC » Thu Feb 03, 2005 4:33 pm

Can any one confirm that the belt change is carried out at either 40k miles or 5 years from first registration?
My car will be 5 years old on 07-03-2005 and has covered 33,500 miles, the dealer has advised me that the belt change will have to be carried out before 07-03-2005 to keep the car in warranty.
It makes no mention of the 5 year clause in the service schedule.
Advice please?????
Cheers fc

Hmmm... not sure with the Audi, but I always thought 3 years or 40k was the norm - whichever comes soonest. That is on other brands though so not sure?

Spoke to my local dealer this morning about this very subject and his view was 40k or 5 years , his view was it was better to change the belts than the engine !!!!

He seemed very clued up RS4 wise which was quite impressive , had a chat with him about a few mtn modified cars which they look after.

Hope this helps

Called Audi uk for clarification....they advise not to wait untill the 40k service to have the belt change but rather do it now due to age of the car ie 5 years old.

Belt is to be changed at 40K or five years, which ever comes first and costs £900 inc vat by dealer, I believe it can be done for less than half that by specialists.

It is definately 40k for sure! don't know about 5 years!!! Price you should be looking at is roughly between £600 - £700, I got mine replaced for £590 ish (if i remember correctly) and I know that was a good deal! You have to haggle with the dealer on it, they will come and go!, but I would definately be looking around the £700 mark!!! good luck

The dealer was Epsom audi , can't speak for them first hand but the guy i spoke to today seemed very switched on as far As rs4 was concerned, I have spoken to quite a few service guys over the last few weeks checking the history on cars and some of the comment's were a little scary !!! some were just totaly unhelpfull.

Regarding the modded cars all he said was that there were a few going in there for servicing, he was very up with the various level of tune etc and how it is achieved . Other bit of advice he gave was not to buy one with out a warranty !!!!

The price for a "40k" service will be upto £1k. All depends on whether you're having the belts done and the service, or just the belts.
Stings a bit either way :D

If your paying £1k for a service that's above cost price, i'm more than sure it's about £900 at cost and what most dealers do is cut the labour costs, I will try and pull out my invoice which will show this! You also have to remember I had a 6year relationship (customer that is!) with my Audi dealer so they were always good to me!!!

Steve,

my dealer provided me with a breakdown of the costs associated with the 40k service.

belt change £ 573.76.
other 40k service work £293.83.

This makes a grand total of £867.59 which includes the vat.
The car is having the work carried out in 3 weeks.

Should be noted that my dealer charges around £65ph while others charge up to £100ph,this is why some lads face the £1000 bill.
Cheers fc

I'm going to find that invoice on Monday (accountant has it!) i'm more than positive I had a full service with change of belt for £590 ish (I might have not inc the VAT) What I definately know is you can haggle with labour costs, I ordered Gmbh Quattro Suspension (through Audi) and ordered my Milltek (through Kim) and got the Audi dealer to fit them both for £400.00, I went to another Audi dealer and was quoted between £700-£800.

It would be good to find out how much others were charged!, I'm happy to show others my invoice if it means other members could get a little money of the labour costs!!!
