Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta Vs Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2

On our way to Bournemouth on Saturday night I heard a flapping noise which turned out to be the inside edge of one of the Vredestein tyres coming away like a thread from a t-shirt! I've still got about 4mm of tread left so was hoping to postpone a purchase for a few months. Darn.

My thoughts on these tyres from a previous thread:

I'm running Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta currently and I haven't been that impressed.

They squeal and they let go way too early in any conditions.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from the heavy S4 but I ran Goodyear Eagle F1s on my old Impreza and they simply would not lose grip, even in torrential rain!

I've got 4-5 mm left on these so I'll be testing the F1s in the not too distant future.

My immediate thought was to order some F1s but there are quite a few people with S4s running Vreds and happy. I even found a thread on an Impreza forum where loyal F1 users had moved to the Vreds, saying they're even better.

Perhaps I'm being too harsh. I realise the Impreza is always going to grip better than the S4 but, technically, the S4 has better handling.

Can people please give their opinion, especially if they've run both tyres on their B6/B7 S4?

I had f1s on my b6, fecking brilliant tyres. Not had vreds myself but a mate did on his vxr and I thought they were pretty poor grip wise.

There are some new Vreds out now - Ultrac Vorti - which have had better reviews than the Sessantas.

That's what I'm getting shortly for my S4.

I've just ordered some F1s with the R1 compound (better wet grip and quieter than the F0 compound).

Camskill was the cheapest at £132 each but add shipping, fitting and the tracking I need doing and it's only slightly cheaper than the garage near me that can get them for £155 and do the fitting and tracking for free. For the sake of about a tenner it's a lot less hassle to drive in to my local and get them done than waiting for delivery and then having to cart them around.

Update:

At first I wasn't that impressed with the F1s so put it down to the heavy S4 but, having given them a good run-in now, I can say they're much better than the Vredestein Sessantas I previously had. There are particular road layouts near me where I know how the Sessantas performed and the F1s were similar at first but now the F1s blitz the Sessantas.

I'll get the F1s again next time and would advise others to do the same.

Yeah, my last set of tyres were Sessanta's, They're really good wearing compared to the 2 sets of pilot sports I had on before, but the Sessanta feel realy "soft" around corners, as if the side wall is flexing too much, something like that.
I wouldn't have pilot sports again after 2 sidewall blowouts from the last set I had. I found out after the event that there is a little known recall on them - thanks for lettings me know Cosco - not !
Anyway, no more Cosco fitting and no more Pilot Sports for me.
I've just had a set of F1's fitted by etyres.co.uk. The tyres are brilliant, real confidence booster around the corners and ( according the the wear rating) they should last even longer than the Sessanta's.
The supply and fitting by etyres is superb, they come to your work or home and fit them at a pre-arranged time - 160MPH balancer, wheel nuts torqued properly - brilliant. I used to do the Camskill thing - buy them and take to a fitters, wait an hour
I can't believe that other tyre places are still in business after my experience with etyres.
