Shock info
Hi all,I have an 06 rs4, my back right shock is leaking now my front left shock is knocking slightly are they linked pressure wise. And do I just replace them or would you recommend coil overs if so which ones.. Thanks for any info..
Re: Shock info
Yes they are connected. My front right shock was knocking and I thought it had failed but when I took it to Unit20 they said it was the back left that had actually failed.
It's up to you how you fix it. You can either replace it like for like. This will keep the nice DRC ride that many people like but leaves you open to possible fail again at some point (or one of the other shocks failing). This is what I did as I quite liked the flatness through the bends but without the harsh ride. I'd recommend using Unit20 for any DRC work as they are the only independant garage with the equipment to recharge DRC.
Your other option is to replace the whole DRC system with coilovers. Most popular are the KW V3. This will mean you have adjustable ride and height and not have to worry about any more DRC failures.
There are other cheaper less adjustable coilover options available too but the KW is the most popular here. Very popular in the US is the Ohlins suspension. Very expensive and needs to be returned for servicing regularly (I think it has to go back to the US for this).

Thanks mike but I live in Aberdeenshire
Re: Shock info
I had my car picked up by a transporter and delivered to Unit20. They are they only people I'd trust with DRC issues.northstarjohn wrote:Thanks mike but I live in Aberdeenshire
It would have cost me more to drive it into the local Audi dealer cos they would have no doubt changed more than was required and chagred double the labour costs. In my mind it was the better option to get the job done once and done right and for the right price.
Also, not all Audi dealers have the equipment to recharge the DRC, although they won't tell you this when you book it in.
Just look at the thread on here with someone who has possibly over inflated DRC shock from a main dealer (one with a decent reuptation too). And not so long ago somebody else was having trouble with Audi and was losing hope and said they were gonna sell their car cos they were fed up until he was told to go to Unit20 who siagnosed hte problem straight away.
I'll see if I can find that thread.
I just don't trust Audi delaers with DRC issues.
Re: Shock info
I thought it was Tony hence why I found it so quick.
Have a read of this before you decide to take it to Audi:
