Newbie with a few questions ........

Post by Sass1 » Fri Mar 14, 2014 5:42 pm

Hello all, and its good to be back in an rs4 after 5 years away - been lurking for a while and thought i better join up to tap into the wealth of knowledge on here.

Picked up an avant at the weekend and have a few questions (tried searching but cant get any definitive answers) :-

1) the car has adjustable suspension and id like to lift it back up to standard height, so what is the factory ride height ( measured from ground to wheelarch) for both standard and SS suspension.

2) throttle seems super sensitive which makes for lumpy progress on the motorway - doesnt appear to be a misfire, just down to the fact that its got a hair trigger throttle at a particular point in the pedal travel - is this normal ?

Just driven a few hundred miles so will take a while to get back into the groove, so bare with me as ill no doubt be back with some other trivial questions in due course .......

Thanks.

The car might have a different map on it? Is it only sensitive in Sport mode? The standard map feels quite sensitive when in sport mode and some re-maps are even more so.

What gear were you in on the motorway? At high revs the V8 has a massive engine braking effect, lifting off the throttle smoothly might help.

It could also be a clutch switch away or on its way out if you are having problems when changing gear. Does the cruise control work? If not, the clutch switch is probably broken which can make for jerky progress.

The car also has active engine mounts that can fail which can cause problems when trying to drive smoothly. These will show up on a scan with the Ross-Tech software.

The rear diff mounts can also wear and cause drive-train shunt under hard acceleration.

Thanks coffey555

Sport mode doesn't seem to make the throttle any more sensitive, so maybe its already had a remap - i called local stealer re getting the software updated, which i thought was FOC but they want £60 to run diagnostics first, will the software update wipe any remap that may have already been done ?

As for your other questions, im in 6th on the mway, so low revs.

Cruise works fine.

Also changing from 1st-2nd-3d smoothly is a bit of a challenge.

Ill get it up on stands when im adjusting the ride height, so ill have good look at engine mounts and diff mounts.

Maybe a moody remap - any ideas from the service history who done the map? Don't bother with a stealer - Get it along to someone like Revolution/Unit20/MRC or AMD and get it checked out on the dyno. Some of us on here have a MRC stage 2 map which makes sport mode behave exactly how you describe but sport mode off - the car drives normally.
