I'd bet the wheels he's got off ebay aren't genuine 8.5x18" RS4 wheels...most likely 8x18" replicas.

It sounds like you've not actually seen this car yet, or driven it ??

Take your time and don't rush into it...drive a few to make sure you know it's the right one for you.

I think a fair few sets of genuine wheels will also be bent ones from the dealers that have gone out the back door. Lots are fitted with the wrong size and mixed tyres.

If the guy is getting it serviced, find out where and ask the dealer to give you their findings.

Best of luck,

Ben

Yeah, sounds like this one is maybe not worth it, there's a fair selection for around or under the price he wants so look around a bit more. As far as the wheels go, if they're marked a tiny bit that shouldn't be an issue in terms of audi replacing them, and if one of them is not marked but is bent then they'll change that, or replace all 4 with hard tyres. You just need to find a reasonable dealer.

your right i havent seen it in the flesh yet,it gets serviced on the 17th so im going to ring them while its in and talk to the mechanic hopefully.ive only seen and driven one and it had a full paint job and a crap repair to one rear quarter so i left it alone,i may be wrong but the wheels hes bought for it were sold on ebay by a site member but they have been refurbed,if the car itself is a good one sorting mint wheels shouldnt be an issue, aspare set might be handy as the missus will drive it more than me ha ha you know what im saying eh guys ive just seen a noggy one in the flesh over here and it didnt look too bad might consider one if i cant find a sensibly priced avus

Which car was the bad one? Could save some other members some time if you post your findings.

Don't forget the cars for sale on here, KCSUN's Noggy one and John's Merlin car.

Cheers

I know it can't be easy if you're not in the country mate, but if you can try and drive a few more...that way you'll know a goodun when you drive it. The wheels may be fine, just make sure you check the serial numbers...

Hope this helps...not trying to be too negative !

Noggy ones are awesome...I wouldn't have bought one when I was looking, but after seeing my first one (TarmacT's) I'd certainly consider it if I was looking now...

Ben, I think you're right. I went to look at a set of OEM RS4 wheels with P Zeros, unmarked on the weekend. Bargained the guy down to $1100 AUS, but it was too good to be true. Had them spun on a balancer and only 1 was still round :bash:

I was tempted to take them anyway and get them replaced under warranty but too much hassle.

I'm wondering if Audi mark the old bent rims or does each wheel have a unique serial number to prevent such trickery?

All bent alloys will get sent to a reputable local scrap metal merchant for destruction and recycling.

I deal with the same scrappy that my local Audi/vw group use for all there scrap metal/engine parts etc. I was in there one day a couple of years ago, when a SKIP full of audi alloys (mainly rs4 style) were being tipped on their yard ready to go through the crusher. They wouldn't let anyone take or buy them as they had signed to certify destruction and repeat business was far more valuable to them. Not to say that a few may have gone out the backdoor somewhere but very unlikely.
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

So it is - Sorry to hear your getting rid Frank. Yup I'd agree with Brooner, it certainly is a clean genuine example and a fair price IMHO.

Its interesting that some of you think £30K for a 30K milage car. Last Dec I paid £34.5K for my then 28K milage one and it was one of the cheapest by £1.5-2K and mine is a 2000. So a 2001 with 30K and warranty in my opinion is still worth about £34. There seems to be a huge spread in the cost V's milage.

Did anyone mention that the RS4 badge on the rear is in the wrong place? Sometimes an obvious sign that the rear has been painted and the badge put back incorrectly by someone not in the know. Check for rear end damage in other words!

Gav- people even advertise RS4 wheels on ebay as "recall" wheels - so some do get through :D What can't you buy on ebay?

Cheers

Do we need to drop the whole engine down in order to replace the clutch?
I have heard someone say that it would be easier to do the job with engine down... True???

You'll know when you need a new one, it will start to slip usually (RPM rises but speed does not).

I have also had cars where it was hard to select any gears when the clutch was badly worn.

Cheers
