With the imminent arrival of my RS4 next Saturday

Which grade fuel do you use, Standard or Super unleaded?

Which grade do Audi recommend?

Shell Nitro+ since day one. But then I've always done that with any decent motor I've owned. When I collected mine I spoke to the service manager & he was adamant that a premium fuel should be used. He said the difference you see in an engine thats been stripped is quite surprising.

Super, always. Needs thinking about if you own a garage queen as the super bit quickly becomes not so super if in the tank for a while. However, it's an RS4 V8 so thats impossible if your 'on it' even remotely...and if your not then it's time to get a diesel?!

Well..... I always fill mine with Vpower or at a minimum Tesco momentum 99
However, in the week leading up the the rs246 rolling road day at AMD at the end of last year I'd lent my car to a mate for a couple if days, and his wife, in her infinite wisdom, had filled it up in asda on their shitty 95 Ron cheapo bollocks on the way to mine
I then ran it at the AMD day and it still made exactly the 444bhp that the book claims and I felt no difference in power on the drive down
The only real difference is it seemed to smoke a bit on the rollers

I'm VPower or Tesco too. Normally the former. Supermarket plonk does not have the same additives, I would not want to run a performance car on it.

I'm really no expert, but I think you'll find one tank will make little to no difference. It's has more effect if it's a regular occurance. Using Nitro+ over Asda may have given a better throttle response but I doubt one tank would have hindered the results from AMD that much. It's something that in my experience is often debated on forums & rarely confirmed as very few of us are in the habit of dismantling our engines! However, for the dealer to recommend a certain fuel type when there is little benefit to them is in my mind a pretty strong rationale to go with what they suggest.

I agree, as modern cars are so well tuned and adjustable that they can run on most fuels without much discernible difference. After all, can people really feel the difference of 5-10bhp when you have 400+ ? I can't imagine. Maybe a placebo effect makes owners feel it faster than it actually is.
It's pretty well recognised that vpower nitro is the best and that's what I normally go for as it's also the closest fuel station to my house
