buying an S4 and I got some questios

Post by smdepew1976 » Mon Dec 27, 2004 1:17 pm

Ok so like it says....I'm going to go buy a new S4 and was wondering what option are worth the $$ and which ones aren't.....also I was wonder if there are upgrades aftermarket wise that would be worth getting too....Oh and I like to drive on the autobahn as well as the twisty back roads....so anything that would increase the top speed would be great and stuff to increase the grip as well....thanks for the help guys

Hi and welcome to the forum. I use mine on the country twisties, track days, autobahns and at the 'ring and can say you're hreading for a great choice of car! Don't worry about the top speed. I've been 150 on the autobahn without any difficulty and my cars been up to 165mph which backs up the commonly held belief that they don't have a limiter fitted. There are obvioulsy tuning options but you'll never really use the extra power for maximum speed only for accelaration.

With regards options then I'd say rear parking sensors are nearly a must. The A4 shape doesn't lend itself to easy parking whether its saloon or avant. If it's saloon then I'd recommend Bose but if avant I have to say I was rather unimpressed. I think the sub in the rear shelf on the saloon makes all the difference. Instead of having the 6CD in the glovebox (like I have ) I'd go for the symphony. You also then get a cassette and it fills the dash instead of having a useless storage hole at the bottom. The only problem with it is if you do, your knew may obstruct the a/c display which isn't an issue if you don't get sympony.

I'd also go for cruise control. I've also got leather and heated seats and I wouldn't swap them but I guess these are real personal choice.

If I was ordering I'd also add the dipping mirror option (dips to help when reverse parking) and also memory seats as my wife and I both use the car and are very different sizes.

All of these thoughts are about the B6 S4 and I guess you'll be getting a B7 version. I believe the interior is basically the same but it's worth you checking.

yeah thanks......I also will hit the "ring i'm sure.....and i recently saw where top gear got 175 mph out of a S4 so that's plenty fast enough i suppose........thanks again i can't wait until I get to drive it for the first time....the locl dealer doesn't even have one to test drive.....

Agree with Scotty- cruise control real bonus for fuel consumtion. I have BOSE on my Avant and do like it. I also have the basic Sat Nav ( without TV and no screen in the dash which I wanted)which is v.good. The only other extra that i wished i had specced is the auto folding wing mirrors @ circa £300 a pop they are expensive to replace.

They don't have the same power (380 in RS4 Vs 344 in S4) although mine has more. :P However it's a more modern car and this always means heavier. You can't really compare them particularly as the S4 is a normally apsirated V8 and the RS4 is a twin-turbo V6.

Cruise control - a must!; after a recent retro-fit I now wish I'd had it from the start.

Good for fuel consumption and also helps to preserve your license for a little longer... :bigblink:

I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself (if it was possible) as rolling road time is a must.

AMD get many brand new S4s delivered to them from the dealers before the customer gets them. I've see n them turn up on trailers with the paint protection still on. They've done loads! I'd expect them to turn it round in one/two days. Give them a call and ask them lots of difficult questions. I'm sure their answers will inspire confidence in you.
