What clutch to S4?

Post by okkim » Mon Dec 27, 2004 10:48 pm

Hi, i am upgrading to K04's and also better exhaustmanifolds(made my myself). And in the same time i'm planning to change the clutch to better one.

So the question is, what clutch should I buy? Is the RS4 clutch enough for 460 hp/ 560 Nm? (not there yet, but maybe later) Does it fit directly to S4 flywheel?

I have found only two places where are those clutch for sale, Ecstuning, and AWE-tuning. The AWE-tuning stage II nearly reasonably prized.

Would def. go with the RS4 unit, since Spec ones are knon to be faulty. An if you are really going to have all that labor work, do the Flywheels as well.

One drawback which I dislike with the solid flywheel is the vibration and harshness transmitted through the DSY at low engine speeds <2200 in higher gears under load. This can be driven around, just to advise you so you arn't alarmed when you first take it out.
The RS4 clutch assembly fitted to mine feels much the same as the standard setup with the benefit of higher torque capacity.

Is this really true? Last time I asked this question someone pointed out that the S4 clutch and RS4 clutch were almost identical.

Yep. Only small ones. i.e. Higher contact pressure on the plate (results in transmission of higher torque) compensate for its limited diameter due to design constraints, not MUCH difference in pedal force, but a bit.
Still uses SAC (self adjusting clutch) type of unit as the S4.
