Tyre Opinions

Post by S4quattroCab » Mon Jan 13, 2014 2:41 pm

I am upsizing my standard 18's to 19 inch reps on my B6 S4 cab.
I am looking at either the Good Year Eagle F1 A2's or the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Tyres would be 245 35 19.

The price difference I have been quoted between the two types is £175 ( 4 tyres).

In your opinions is it worth the extra £175 to go for the Super Sports.

Which has the better looking side wall, I have PS3's on my 18's at the moment and the profile is 40 and is the side wall seems a bit rounded. Some tyres seem to have a squarer look to the sidewall.

Annual usage is 6,000 miles and it doesn't get driven too hard and not tracked.

Many thanks for your opinions,

If not driven too hard or tracked then both are a fine tyre and little to choose between them.
Officially the ratings are
Michelin E (economy) A (wet weather) 71db
GY F1's C (economy) A (wet weather) 70db

So similar wet weather performance but the GY are quieter and more fuel economical.
The only other bearing would be wear rate but I don't have any idea on them.

FWIW, I'm getting new tyres this week and going for the GY.

Is 245 the right size? Seems a bit wide. They might rub on the front?

Have just ordered the F1's from the same supplier that I have bought my new rims from. He said he will change them to the 235's if they rub.

Batfink, its gonna be tight. I wont know for sure till i try them. Have been doing a fair bit of research and some owners have them fitted. Fingers crossed.

I'm looking at going up to 19's and most say 235/35/19. Currently have 235/40/18. The width stays the same but the wall height lowers to keep the rolling radius the same accounting for the extra inch of wheel. What wheels have you gone for? I'm loving the new RS4 style v spokes.

I currently have genuine 18 inch RS4 style twin arm 7 spokes and now have on order the same style but in a 19 inch replica. The reps are available in better offset values than genuine ones.

I love the RS4 V spokes too and posted a thread about them somewhere but I think my old B6 may look a bit too dated to suit the V spokes. Yours being a newer shape B7 would probably look cool.

Another thing to remember is the load rating is much lower on the 235 35 19's when compared to the 235 40 18's.

I think the V spokes would look on the B6 tbh. They are a quote new design so not many around. Not too fussed about load rating. Never have much in the car and never gets driven anywhere near it's limits. Although did see a pic of a B7 with the C6 RS6 wheels on and like the look of them now so not sure what to go for now!
