What chance S4 Y plate

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site but have read with interest for a number of months with a view to buying an S4. I currently drive an A4 (150000 miler and going strong) and want an S4 for the weekend. I have recently put a wanted ad in autotrader for a year 2001 S4 but haven't heard a peep.

My question - is this going to be like looking for rocking horse sh*t?

YES................ I was lucky.

Sitas3 sold his 2001 S4 to me and bought an RS4, I found his Y reg car sitting on a ramp in a local Centre and made him an offer.

There is a Y plate avant on Autotrader at the moment, but its way over priced, its the only Y I've seen in looking over the last few months

Welcome to the site dazzer.

Pretty rare in the UK, but I think there are a few. Dippy on here has a 2001 car that he imported.

The US got S4's 2000 - 2002.

At the time I bought my car, the UK list price was £42K for my spec. Considering that at the same time Audi were selling the RS4 for about £50K (IIRC), but also the B6 was already arriving in the showrooms. So I guess that UK sales of S4s in 2001 must have been fairly low.

I'm also new to the site having read this forum thoroughly before recently buying a 2000 S4 avant. I was wondering why the Y reg one on autotrader currently was considered over priced? Given there is no mileage quoted it may be but Fountain don't seem to hang on to their 2000 year cars for long and they have all been priced at £18K recently. (Just in case you are wondering I didn't buy one of them - they were always gone by the time I looked!)

Not sure on the S4 pricing but I just remember that my friendly Audi dealer tried to sell me a new S4 when I started looking round for one in April 2001. They only had avants though so I was not interested.

There must be UK 2001 avants around

Firstly the car isn't quoted as having FASH which I would expect for a car of that age and certainly for the money.

Secondly Fontain have a history of dealing with S4's and would at least have recognised the colour as Nogaro Blue and not Metallic Jazz Blue (?) as well as the silver leather not being 'Biscuit' colour! Not knowing the car properly indicates to me that they are being greedy with the price. It hasn't even got Recaros nor is there any mention of Bose.

With regards the mileage, adverts always state mileage when it goes in favour of the car, and regular don't when it doesn't. Thats not to say its especially high, but I would expect it to be nice and low for that kind of money and I suspect it's not as low as it should be.

I'm am just the suspicious type I know, but it never fails to play safe.

Agree with everything you say and now understand why it is overpriced. Fountain's last 2000 year S4 avant that was advertised (and I assume sold for) £18K only had 25K miles. These 'S' cars seem to be more price sensitive to mileage than any other car I have known.

Good luck with the search. I spent several months looking. I don't think there were any changes between 2000 and 2001 model years.

Wow, you have to be quick,yesterday a 51 plate S4 avant came up on Autotrader in the afternoon. Now its either going to return after Christmas or its already sold. My bet is it sold,

Silver with silver Recaros, Bose stereo, FASH, 66k, I think it had warranty, £17.5k. Now that seems like a good car. Expecially as that was priced from a main dealer.

We shall see if it reappears! From a dealer in Kent somewhere, can't remember the name of them. I phoned them as the advert didn't state the colour of the leather, car wasn't due into stock until next week! If that was the money I had wanted to spend and I had wanted silver leather rather than black I'd have been in there.
