'French Optimax'

Post by moresimon » Tue Dec 21, 2004 7:10 pm

Off to the French alps next week with the beast - anyone know what the French equivalent of Optimax is ?

Anyone had any experience of actually putting Pewag chains on the wheels at the roadside as understand more snow is forecast and think chains will be mandatory.

Also having invested in a new set of 18'' wheels and tyres if anyone is interested in borrowing them (ok I mean 'renting') later in the season (for a very reasonable fee) then please let me know.

I also intend to take issue with Audi UK on how they can spec a car which it is then illegal to drive in the French alps in winter - no chains fit the 19'' wheels which are unique to UK spec - on the continent the standard spec is the 18'' variety.

Otherwise the car is great and looking forward to taking it on to some decent French roads.

Plod is on the warpath - especially if you have "English" plates Standard fine is €90 if you are not too silly. They only accept cash so keep an appropriate amount in the glovebox :sekret:

I've bought Optimax in France and Belgium plus I've bought the 100RON V-Power/MAx (what it's called) on the continent (can't recall where).
