Daveperc has given the lowdown on the box already. It'll drive the same as before it broke, don't expect DSG shifts all of a sudden, and there wasn't any less measureable drivetrain losses from what I recall and you'll never know it was money well spent until you're 200k miles/20 years down the line. The 517 trans is for people who really love their C5 and naturally expect to keep it for the rest of their lives. Pandas' thoughts will be a wink, an ass flash and something cryptic, so don't hold your breath.

Bloody hell, I'm a miserable sod.

Everything you said there was spot on, BUT - 517 trans is for the owners who want big figures. Can't really see a 517 being needed for a standard car.
I would say that an uprated verter is helpful to stage1 mapped cars, then 517 for anyone going stage2 +.
We will never know the outcome of this build, bits will be missing and never explained.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!
