Re: Cross drilled, Solid or grooved????
How do you clean it out?
Dave
When I was at the rolling road day at G-Force I saw one of their guys cleaning out the holes in the disc with a drill bit in an electric drill.

Re: Cross drilled, Solid or grooved????
thats ok carl, but the GMBH cross drilled holes do not line up on either side of the disc, i mean to say each sides holes do not align with the other holes in the other face of the disc
So this is hard to clean out
THe movit ones have holes that go all the way through so are easier to clean

Re: Cross drilled, Solid or grooved????
My brother has the big brembo 4 pot caliper, 355 mm cross drilled disks,in his 2000 S4, with 18" Oettinger rims and 3mm HR spacers so it can clear the caliper from the rim. He is going to sell the car, so my question is: Can I put this set up in my car (RS4), with out any modifications?

Re: Cross drilled, Solid or grooved????
And Jeff i couldnt agree more
The bedding in is paramount on good life of brakes
I agree. I failed to do this properly with my new AMD/EBC Group N grooved discs recently, and I had to have them skimmed by AMD (this cost me half as much as the discs! ) because they caused lots of judder whilst high speed braking.
I've now properly bedded them in and they are a lot better.
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

i would think not, but it would probably work better then stock set up
the brembo/movit upgrade is 380mm discs for the RS4 with 4 pot calipers

Right
I am having brake problems and would like to make the points for comment
I think that the Movit brake kit although sold as a Porshe kit is in fact not.
The Discs
I have compared the discs from them and Porshe and they are different. The porshe ones have much nicer holes with more rounded edges, maybe Andy's are of this design and so are THorneys as he has had an early set. They also seem to be machined slightly better.
So this would explain why JR and I are not so happy with the Movit discs
However the main bone of discontent is that Movit have alledgedly fallen out with Porshe so are sourcing discs elsewhere, and are most definitely not up to scratch so becareful what you are buying!!!
For the £3870 + VAT cost of this set up then a further £800-900 to replace the discs to the Porshe disc is just outrageous and I personally am not at all happy with this.
Also I have since found out that the larger discs are more prone to distortion as the outer edges are not supported so well
Obviously the distortion is caused by heat
So my possible plan is to use a 360 diameter disc - from Porshe, either mount it on the Movit bell or ideally create a new bell. This bell will have brackets on it so that i can install some duct fins, forcing air across the disc so aiding cooling. In addition i believe a 6 pot calliper will spread the braking load more meaning that, assuming the pad area is increased, the heat will take longer to build up. Also a larger braking area should not put such a strain on the disc surface.
This together with 19" rims should stop all my current braking problems
Alternatively my cheaper option is to make some air ducts, new porshe discs and keep the 4 pots with the 19" rims
I will let you know how i get on
Anyone got any comments
