Re: Best £40 I've ever spent!
I received mine this week, but didn't realise it had to be plugged into the router all the time, which makes it not as useful as I thought seeing as my garage and router are a fair distance apart...
Anyone want to make me an offer for an unused/boxed camera ?

How hard was it to set up, maybe I've misread instructions if it's totally wireless ?

Found the instructions a bit vague, but there's loads of info on their forum, Tenvis!Graeme4130 wrote:That looks like the sane one I haveangryant wrote:I have this one in the garage,, seems ok so far!

Used the info there to set it up, also posted a couple of questions which were answered quickly!
Set it up in the house initially hard wired then transferred to the garage, went to pub to check the wireless was working!
Drop me a pm if needed and I will try to assist!
Took screen shots of each stage of the set-up!
Hardest part I found was port forwarding as had never heard of it before

Re: Best £40 I've ever spent!
Few tips (as it is can be minefield when setting-up web/ip-cams):
!. Buying cheap can often (but not always) mean flakey Chinese gear, with little or no support.
2. If you want to watch remotely (away from your premises), then you will need to do some port-forwarding on your router. This can range from being very simple (if the router has built in wizards), to complicated ... if your using a more commercial grade router.
3. Consider using CAT5/e network cable, plus a Power-Over_Ethernet injector.... if possible. This will usually result in a much more reliable connection than WiFi.
Also the power (as the name suggests) is supplied via the network cable, so no power-supply and/or mains socket is needed near the camera. Look for a POE symbol/specs
4. Many cameras offer night-vision.... this can be quite poor if you’re using the inbuilt IR LEDs on the camera. If you find the range insufficient, try an additional IR Illuminator which you can get for £15 on Amazon.
5. Video quality can only be as good as your “Up Speed” to your ISP (and cameras frame-rate)... so if you’re on a cr4ppy Internet connection, dont expect smooth vid’ (you may even be better off with just stills)
All the above are for IP type network cameras. If you are considering an actual CCTV setup (these are more old-school)... you will need a network setup to whatever PVR/DVR that setup uses.
Anyway, hopefully a few things to consider before purchase. There’s rarely a quick answer to these setups as the variations are pretty infinite.

For those looking for something with a bit of support, extremely easy to setup try one of these:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/av-tech-avn701e ... ing-814832
These are not wifi but a set of powerline plugs will give you internet connectivity in your garage... alternatively pay slightly more for a wifi version.
When you want to watch vids outside of the house, use your external ip
