people talk about goodwill etc ... but at 100k miles, wear and tear will far outweight any argument for goodwill.

as lengster said, you could have exactly halved that bill, let alone what they wanted to charge you for the advisories

Starting to get that picture. I'm not that savvy when it comes to doing my own oil change etc. But I won't be using Audi again.

Mine is booked in at Camberley Audi - 40K fixed servicing is £359.84 - my own oil is Fuch Titan Pro s - 10 ltrs at £82.80 (Opie Oils ebay Shop) so with brake fluid change it's £511.64 - pretty reasonable....

+1 for Opie Oils - I get mine for there and get my intermediate services done at a local garage. For a major service I will go to A specialist (AMD for me) - Audi main dealers at not worth it and I don't trust them with my car which at the end of the day is a no ordinary vehicle and deserves / needs proper care.

Wo wo wo...

The first work sheet that you posted says 'suspension pipes corroded' not rods. A lot of people will jump on the DRC bashing wagon because rightly so, the first two generations were not reliable coupled with poorly trained dealers who risked/did further damage to the system. So people moved their alliance to non OEM products. The third generation DRC however is much more reliable and I am yet to read of any failures. Anyway that aside, I interpreted the work sheet as the pipe which carries the hydraulic fluid to the central valve has aesthetical corrosion, this does not constitute a DRC failure. You could simple remove the wheel and clean/treat the corrosion with a product like Bilt Hamber Deox Gel and re-seal. I'm sure Unit 20 will advise correctly on what to do as they have plenty of DRC experience.

As others have alluded to, there are ways to help reduce dealer service cost and keep those Audi stamps in the SH Book. I provide my own oils and get them to price match (where ever possible) independent prices for things like Aircon servicing. It all helps and those Audi stamps will pay you back when it comes to re-sale as your potential market audience will be greater.

Corr audi know how to charge to change the oil! Just rang my local independent specialist who is very knowlegable and well respected locally. He quoted me £400 odd for a full major service!

Really? Care to share some links of where the official workshop brew is 'readily available'? I'm confident when searching for UK suppliers, the 'computer says no' will be the result.

lengster1 wrote:i just dont like paying a 90 quid premium on 10 litres of oil for nothing ,
£90 for ten litres is cheap for an Audi stealership!

lengster1 wrote:and often you will get the same stuff out of a drum they put in 2.0 tdi's,
Actually, you WILL get the same oil as what they use in 2.0 TDIs - because there is only one spec of oil approved for official workshop use!

I'd be keen if you shared your findings.

Yup - brake fluid - why are they NOT using the correct fluid? There is only one correct brake fluid - and that is the genuine OEM VAG fluid.

And they raped you on the price of the engine oil - especially considering the trade price for Shell Helix Ultra is around £6ish per litre, making it considerably cheaper than the official Castrol workshop brew.

You can buy the correct oil mist places including costco.

It would be cheap but what he ment is audi sticking 90quid on top of the normal price.

You are correct - but Lengster was ranting specifically about Castrol oil, and specifically the OEM professional Castrol brew. There IS a difference in quality between the OEM Castrol and the 'consumer' Castrol Edge as supplied by the likes of Halfrauds, Ama<tax dodging cnuts>zon, etc.

Castrol UK limit the supplies of its OEM 'professional' range to only official dealers. Not just VW/Audi, but also BMW and Mercedes too. You'll never find the Castrol professional range in the shops, or at any independent garage (unless they sourced it from abroad).

I don't agree with your logic. The OEM Castrol fluids have a trade price to the stealers of around £6-7 per litre (net, plus VAT). And most Audi (and VW) stealers often charge around £13-14 per litre to the customer (I've heard some stealers in the smoke charging £16.50 per litre!!!). So the fact that he was only charged £90 for the oil - which equates to £9 per litre - sounds quite a bargain (from an Audi stealer) to me.
