MRC upgrades - Its almost Xmas!

Post by Dave7 » Wed Nov 13, 2013 12:48 pm

When I buy a car which is hopefully soon, I'll be looking at a couple of upgrades and have been given some prices from MRC. Just wondering what the collective thinks and who else might be able to offer similar for less or better value?

I'm pretty sure my last RS4 wasn't producing anywhere near the quoted figures, never had it tested as I'm not into modifying cars really. I've been thinking about this and am willing to spend a little dosh to free up the engine somewhat. See below - other options or suggestions would be muchos appreciated. :beerchug:

Option 1 - Carbon clean on its own should it need after a dyno run - £975
Option 2 - Carbon clean with Stage 2 manifold and map £2200
Plus - Miltek non res valved £1960 (Just for the sound as standard exhaust is a little quiet after a Porsche sports exhaust!)

Option 2 and the exhaust are going to cost me a considerable amount, are there any other options open to me?

Cheers

I purchased the Milly and then a few months later went to MRC for the CC and Stage 2 Mani, gutted precats and map.... well worth it!

I also have the stage 2 mani + cold air feed, JHM inlet spacers, pre cats gutted and a full carbon clean+ milly
This does make a big difference and worth the money as it makes the car what it should have been out the box

They also offer a basic clean for about £500 don't they? From what i gather on here a lot of people have gone with that option and had no complaints.
You could get the basic clean and remap for about the same money.

Mike that is very interesting as they didn't tell me that on the phone but then why would they!

You're right, unit 20 will do it for just over 1700 fitted. They'll also carbon clean it for 500 plus a remap is also 500.
Manifold polished and whatnot is 500 ish. It all works out a fair bit less than MRC but they don't have a rolling road. Not that bigger issue, just means that I can't get it all done in-house.

MRC are similar price if I went for a 500 quid clean. I'll barter on the exhaust.
At the end of the day they should discount if having lots done.

Unit 20 use a rolling road literally a stones throw away from where their premises is. So they could get a rolling road figure for you.

I wonder if unit 20's mapping makes much of a difference in sport and non sport mode like MRC's mapping does, I know AMD's make no real difference

Cold air feed, gutted pre cats are probably the best gains along with a proper map that unlocks the RS4s throttle restriction in the first 3 gears,be carefull many say they can do it but........power runs in third gear before and after would tell apart the porkies.

Unit 20 said that they use a rolling road in Queensferry so might not be using the one close by any more?

Re the map difference in Sport to non sport button settings, this is something that I personally wouldn't like. I dislike intensely the sharper / short travel throttle you get when pressing the sports button, so to have a map that gives me more when pressing it wouldnt suit me at all. I'd want the same engine characteristic on both settings.

Its one of the issues with a non res valved exhaust (or standard exhaust for that matter) hence the golf tee mod in the vacuum pipes), ok some go for a non valved and hence cheaper system but with a 2 year old and a 3 month old in the car, they'd suffer hearing loss!

I enquired about a separate switch being fitted somewhere to open and close the valves therefore bypassing the sports button :piss: , both MRC and Unit 20 said they would do this for me.
I wonder if there is a map available that disengages the throttle sensitivity in sport?
