Re: Stolen S4
Did you leave your plastic service key in the glove box ????
if you did its a case of smash pass window service key in ignition and off with your pride and joy

Re: Stolen S4
You can unlock the car and glovebox and maybe take off the steering lock with the plastic key but you cannot drive the engine with it

Good point....need to get off my arse and have a go.Ian_C wrote:Surely you need an immobiliser chip?
However it'd be fack all use if it didn't work.
Re: Stolen S4
My understanding is that the plastic key has a code physically written on it to enable the dealer to produce a complete new key. So still definitely don't leave it in the car!

Can you drive it though? Or does it cut out when the car realises there is no immobiliser chip?

Re: Stolen S4
A thread on another forum says that a guy tried it but it didn't work but took it to Audi and they coded the key and it now works. Apparently there is a transponder in the plastic key!?! I'm surprised at that, but that's what it says.
Re: Stolen S4
Audi also told me there is a transponder in the "valet" key.
When i had the car returned police found a plastic audi fob - the plastic key can be put into it and used to start / drive the car...
Car is back and Audi have done a superb job of making it look and smell like a new car again - no damage done by the thieving b*stards but when you know their scrawny @sses have been sat on your leather a deep clean is required!
Car has a tracker (from Tracker - now upgraded so that if anyone breathes on it without my permission they get electrocuted)...and an upgraded alarm...little bit of an outlay but worth having based on my experience...
Aforementioned thieving b*stards have been released on bail...hopefully to reappear when the "birch" is reinstated.
Also...as car was recovered and no claim, insurers assure me that it won't be registered on any searches as Cat D - anyone got any thoughts on that?

Re: Stolen S4
there is a chip in the plastic key so everyone who has that key in your glove box go outside get it and lock it in a safe i tried it yesterday i got in the car my friend locked me in with main key i started the car with ease and without any alarms going off and drove off
Re: Stolen S4
AFAIK If the insurers didn't pay out then it's not classed as stolen / recovered.

Re: Stolen S4
not true (as I understand it). The insurer database includes the police one so if you report the car as stolen irrespective if a claim is paid it will have the note against the file.MikeFish wrote:AFAIK If the insurers didn't pay out then it's not classed as stolen / recovered.
