Just posted this on the PH buyers guide, think I've lost itNow my cars running just under 440 break, my fuel just gets guzzled up in no time, with my heavy right foot I don't even bother looking, might just see how bad I can get it, this sounds much better fun

Re: my highest MPG achieved
+1 Tim. The best I ever saw on my ST220 was about 27-28mpg (long run from Cornwall to Heathrow and back). I loved my ST220 and whilst obviously not as quick or a special as my RS4, dare I say it was every bit as good as a drivers car???TimDogg wrote:I have never seen over 25 mpg on mine ever. At 30 mpg you'll be coking up like a rock star!!!
I had this car - the ST220 - avg 27 mpg so I changed to the RS4 instead. Beautiful car though but not as great as the ST24 I had before it. (ST220 was 222 bhp - 0-62 mph in 7.4 secs)A mate had a v6 mondeo, 3.0 litre engine giving about 200bhp and struggling to get 25mpg, utterly pointless.

Re: my highest MPG achieved
My best ever trip was about 350 miles roundtrip on one tank. Averaged exactly 70 for 85% of the trip (the motorway driving) plus some normal driving around town mixed in. I wanted to see what I could get out of the car.
The OBC indicated 30 MPG (UK) . Calculated (miles driven divided by fuel used) was nearly identical to the OBC.
This past weekend I did a similar length trip without caring about mpg. I put it at 80 when I was in cruise control, but hit well over 100 on numerous occasions. Also had a little bit of in town driving like the previous time.
On this trip I averaged 23.5 mpg. Interesting to see the difference between having fun and just enjoying the car vs cutting it's balls off to get best mileage.
If you do 15,000 miles a year almost entirely motorway, at £1.50 a litre...
Avg 30 mpg (imperial) you spend £3400
Avg 23.5 mpg (imperial) you spend £4342

Re: my highest MPG achieved
Pretty sure mine does over 30mpg................................................... When it's parked on my drive
Think I've seen around that, certainly hit 27 - 28 mpg when it's winter and the road is snowy and everyone is doing 20mph
I genuinely never look at it any more, I use the miles remaining and simply go fill her up when needed
Given the engine we are running these cars are just awesome

Re: my highest MPG achieved
Good reading this article
I think we are all interested what is achievable regarding MPG with our cars, everyone you speak to about your car asks how much do you get to the gallon? Bet it's thirsty? So it's interesting to know what's it can achieve, like wise what's the least you have achieved ?
In the short time I have had my car (4 wks) best is 32.5 ave 70mph 60 mile trip, same trip 12.1mpg .... Sounded great and ran well... Not advisable to mention speed !
Today I did the same trip in my 15dci Clio 80 BHP (9 year old) 80.2 mpg ave 68 mph!

I am sure someone will correct me but is that not 7.4 mpg, now that's cooking.....what sort of speeds did you get up to? what track?
where are you based in Hants?
Years ago I traveled to Norwich on a company trip, I was almost there when I got a call saying the meeting had been cancelled, so decided to visit Snetterton in my company car, waved at the staff at the gate and drove through straight onto the track, I was driving a Renault 19 16 valve at the time, god did that feel SSSSLLLLOOOOOWWWWW! did 2 laps and went home

Re: my highest MPG achieved
short time averages are a bit pointess although accurate for that journey or time period TBH there are so many variables that come come in to the equation cruise on at 60 mph on some very slightly down hill roads,.. the type of surface, tyre pressures or type , how well the engine is maintained , headwinds /tailwinds all can affect it , i check mine evey thousand miles or so on trip 2 and that is a more relevant reading of what your actaully doin , the longet the milage and time the more averaged out it will be so last time i checked mine was after 2800 miles and my average was 17.7
and i dont commute or live in a city
my best was 35 , whiles cruising downhill through a 5 mile 50 limit with avg speed cameras on so totally irrelevant really

Re: my highest MPG achieved
KernowPete - I loved the ST220 but it was just time to move up I guess but as a complete car the ST was an absolute gem and the chassis was fantastic. Ford do make well balanced cars but they just need to either improve the fuel economy or get more power from the motor they have - bulletproof motors though, brilliant.

Re: my highest MPG achieved
the first little trip out i done in mine was about 240mile round trip and never got over 21.9 with a mix of cruising and a bit more spirited driving now and again. used to have a 306 gti6 and focus st170 and they were below 30 most of the time so fairly happy with the rs,s consumption. lol

Re: my highest MPG achieved
It's really interesting to see the different figures people are reporting on this thread.
I can average up to 27.4mpg fairly comfortably but have found it virtually impossible to get much over that on any kind of run regardless of how light my foot is! Admittedly, most of my driving is in very flat areas of the country but that figure does include a trip from the North East to Bristol and back rarely doing less than 60 or more than 80. Having said that, I haven't yet done a track day in mine but on a longish journey I've actually found it pretty hard to average less than about 22mpg.
I'd be interested to know from those getting the really high mpg figures: (a) what tyres they're using; and (b) what loads they're carrying.
The way I see it is that my wife's car has approx 1/8th of the powerof my RS4 but doesn't even return twice the mpg...who's the mug now? On that basis th RS4 has a VERY GREEN AND ECONOMICAL ENGINE #manmaths
