Rolling Road Day at QST
Great day out thanks to all those that came down
I agree about the rolling road, all mechanical and electronic devices have a tolerance, so even back to back runs on the same car will see different results, add to that varying actual octane levels in fuels etc and variations of 5% are very easy to hit.
Take my extremes, 498BHP/623nM (after IC Install) and 477/594 (yesterday), 22BHP and 29nM different but still less than 5% variation.
As Andy and Simple say it is the car and driver combination and the sum of the abilities of the car that are important as well as how happy the individual is with their results.
Some cars where well down on expected figures but that may point to other problems so again worth knowing so they can be looked at further.

We know the RR's vary etc but some people were getting exactly the same result as they'd got at AMD. If I was 10 possibly 20bhp different I wouldn't query it but since most of the others delivered what was expected and my stage 3 car came out about 60bhp down I think I'd be stupid not to investigate in case something is wrong.

Cheers Prawn for a top day (morning for me), thank Kim the next time you see him as well. It was good not to feel rushed and part of an on/off production line, and I felt like I was getting a professional service.
Glad to say that my car did what it should do and it was good to hear Kim say that also
May have to invest in a QST system if it gives 20+BHP as per Sitas car!
Good to see you all again, top crowd of lads.
Cheers
Ben

Thanks for organising Sean
Yes mine was reading more like a 163 , ( 168 and 171 bhp) than a 190 !
You can all guess the dealer's reaction when I ask them to sort out the problem........under warranty........and by the way Mr Dealer there are no error codes !!
I need to get it sorted before I go further with a chip
Kim suggested it may be a dodgy DV - seems ok to 2800rpm then there is a pronounced dip, bhp and torque fall before slowly climbing again
It does help to explain the feeling that her 1999 quattro T Sport has got lots more mid range go than the my 190
Glad you decided to go for it Duncan, no nasty

While I agree with your comments, to a point, Andy, logic would suggest that if after 3 runs on the dyno my car is reading low while most other cars are reading about right then there is a problem somewhere....and the possibilities are...
1. There is an issue with my car (no fault codes are showing and it had a pressure test and DV test the day before the RR) or
2. The car never made 395BHP and is not capable of that figure with the modifications that have been made to it (KO4s, Full Milltek & remap).
Kim suggests that a S4 with KO4s, full Milltek, RS4 injectors and fuel pump and a remap should make 370-380BHP on his dyno. I, like Scotty, would have been happy if the car had RR close (+/- 20BHP) to the figure that came from the RR at AmD but it is significantly different.

See your point Jeff. Were any intake temp corrections made on the day, or does Kim's new RR not need this? Maybe the lack of Opti + Millers makes a bigger difference than we think.

Well, my first meeting and good to put a few faces to names.
Thanks to Prawn for sorting out the meet -nice car BTW.
Loads of nice cars in various states of tune, and some varying results on the dyno, some were fine, one or too surprised and some were down - mine included
Shame i had to leave early without getting to see Shaun & Johns on the dyno.Oh well now to sort the car....

Hi guys - does anyone have power figures at the wheels - I would like to see how Kim's RR compares to the Maha one at Star Performance up here. What make is Kim's?
Were any of you watching inlet temps? it is easy for a car to get too high inlet temps and then run on the knock maps - the RR inlet temps on my car were through the roof on the rollers and no where near the figures out on the road.
To compare I got 330bhp at the wheels, with 108bhp losses, 428lb/ft torque, running 2.15bar boost, Inlet temps up at 50deg C above ambient and on the road I don't get over 20deg above ambient.

I wish i had my inlet temps checked now Doug. I was a little gutted to see 125bhp losses at the wheels. Thats a big chunk of the 455 measured at the crank.

That would definitely help - but what does that compare to out on the road? Was anyone logging on the rollers?Scotty wrote:Kim's is also a Maha plus he's got it in an airconditioned enclosure with cold air blowing straight onto the front of the car.
It is one thing having cold air blown on - but is at at 140mph - as that is what you are doing at high rpm in 4th ! He sounds like he has a good setup - I just want to know how good/realistic it is.
I would have liked to come to this but read about it too late.
