sports exhaust
I've decided to put a deposit down after much soul searching. I sampled an air and a dynamic pack car and will go for standard, but want to know if anyone here has experienced sports exhaust and is it worth the extra? Can it be switched off?

Re: sports exhaust
My RS6 is due to be built at the start of December and I've gone with the sports exhaust option (and the air suspension as well). I spent a lot of time looking into it and discussed it with a dealer who'd driven one both with and without - and I decided to go for it on the basis of:
-The exhaust noise/flaps are switchable via the MMI to make it generally quieter/louder (although my dealer reckons it is slightly louder overall relative to the standard exhaust)
-The flaps don't normally open until 3000 rpm, so pootling around it should be quietish (I think MMI may be able to change this though)
-Spending £90k on a car I want it to have some entertainment value when booting it, I'd be gutted if the standard exhaust was a bit too quiet and I hadn't specified the sports exhaust option
-The reviews I read say it doesn't drone - the one I liked most was:
Topgear.com
"A sports exhaust that sounds like a tiny army having a small but important war in the boot"
"Full throttle brings the sound of a month's worth of breathable oxygen molecules genocided in those turbos. When the exhaust flap opens up with an audible thunk at just under 3,000rpm, the car sounds like an exploding tuba. In a good way. And the banging and popping on the overrun is gloriously addictive. The car we had came equipped with the optional sports exhaust, and all RS6 owners ought to be required by law to have it. It never drones, sounds incredible and is worth whatever they decide to charge for it - even if more than the actual car."

Love it. I'm so jealous of all new owners... in a couple of years I hope to be among you.

Agreed, heard one being spanked in neutral at AITP and the popping overrun was awesome.Topgear.com wrote:....the banging and popping on the overrun is gloriously addictive......

Re: sports exhaust
I'm sure it will be worth the readies but wondered if anyone here has had first hand experience, my chief concern is drone, as this is primarily a family car. Interested to know what spec you've gone for (S4geo), I won't be confirming mine until January, probably too much time to think! I've also decided not to go for the dynamic pack, will probably opt for double glazing, ACC and a roof, other than that it is really just the colour and the wheels, at the moment daytona and polished 21 inch.

Re: sports exhaust
Blimey...you've kept conservative.
I'd be going wheels, dynamic pack plus, exhaust, insulating and privacy glass, power door close, adaptive cruise, parking advance with top view, homelink, alu pack and some other stuff.
But I can't resist the two door lure.

Re: sports exhaust
Sure - spec wise, I went with the following:
Daytona Pearl
Silver Leather & Black headliner
Black gloss 21" alloys
Heads-up display
LED headlights
Sports Exhaust
Panoramic Sunroof
Top View Camera
Privacy Glass
Advanced Key with Power Boot
Rear blinds
Rear airbags
Phone Prep high
I passed on the Dynamic Packs as I'm not too bothered about doing more than 155mph and the DRC seems to only be happy in Comfort mode - whereas the air seemed a little more adjustable for different scenarios (and also more comfortable day to day when the wife uses the car - which is probably 70% of the time!). I also passed on the carbon and alu packs, as I thought the quattro sign was a little bit ostentatious!
[blueaudi] -> If you're anywhere close to the route from Perth down to Surrey, then I'm happy to stop by as I drive back home so you can sample the sports exhaust system first hand - should be early January

Re: sports exhaust
That's very kind but I wouldn't put you out, some pics of your wheel/colour combo would be interesting though. Why did you go for the top camera? I have this on my Range Rover and hardly ever use it unless I'm towing. I will probably have the park assist along with the key/boot option, but like you will swerve dynamic, I think it's lost on this car.

Re: sports exhaust
The plan for the top view camera is to try and help the wife avoid curbing the alloys in multi-story car parks (as she has managed to quite well with the S4!) which may be even easier for her to do in a slightly wider and longer car like the RS6.
The only other option I was 50/50 on is the HUD - but I had an S6 with it for a short while and really liked it - it's just a shame that it's standard on the M5 but Audi charge £1k!

Re: sports exhaust
The RS6 is a massive car, it's definitely not compatible with multi storeys and avoidance of curbs!
Re: sports exhaust
Mmmm, I was going to spec the park assist but will review, the RR system takes an age to appear on the screen, it's cumbersome and I just don't use it. As an aside, does anyone think Audi will offer the black optics on RS6? I would really like Prism with black alloys, but it needs the carbon pack (IMO) and I just won't fork a few grand out for carbon and the awful quattro logo.

Re: sports exhaust
Hi Chris, the top camera is extra to park assist, but only by a couple of hundred. The carbon pack is over 4k though, which makes the argument about removing the quattro letters redundant for me. I would hope they might add a black pack at some stage for a reasonable sum, pretty sure that's been the pattern before but I maybe grasping at straws.

Re: sports exhaust
My C6 camera is above number plate?
Is this part of the park assist on the C7?
If so surely this would be enough?
Unless I'm missing something with the top mounted camera??
