Saying hello and Oil question

Post by Balmeanach » Sun Sep 15, 2013 1:54 pm

Hi all, glad to be here at last. 2 months into ownership and used 1 ltr of oil in first 2k miles (now on 3k). Does this seem about right?

Car looks stunning, your oil usage isn't anything to worry about, should calm down as miles go up. Maybe 1lt per 3-5k next time imo.

Normal - mine uses 1 litre 1000 miles

Record is 1.5 litres during Le Mans (there and back approx 800 miles). Thankfully I know the car was going to get a work out with weight / heat so I packed two top up bottles just in case

Balmeanach as in Isle of Skye? Not been to the island for years but last trip I stayed near Dunvegan

Thanks for the reassurance on oil consumption guys. Previously had M3 and this did a litre every 2.5k. Yes, balmeanach as in Isle of Skye although I dont live there. Just love those scottish roads. Magnificent!

Went on the Audi driving experience a couple of weeks ago and their RS5 oil gauge was at half way ... And those cars were really spanked ...... Nice car pic same as mine ... Good colour and wheel choice.

Now on 4.5k and second litre gone in. Hopefully oil consumption will ease off a bit now. Yes, I think the grey paint goes well with the colour tint of the wheels.

As above thats pretty good, nothing to worry about. I notice it does use more oil when I'm going for it and revving it hard.

Top tip - if you keep half a litre in a one litre top up bottle its an absolute cinch to pour in the engine filler cap with no spills. I keep half a litre in the boot at all times (and just refill this bottle from a 4 litre bottle in the garage). Sometimes I check it manually and think its a bit low, but I'd only put half litre in at a time. I'm more worried about overfilling than underfilling - if its underfilled the light WILL come on

I've used about a litre and a half in nearly 11k miles
The first litre had to go in about 1.5k in and a suspected I was in for an expensive oil habit, but after that I've only had to once top up half a litre and it's dropped very little since
Service indicator still shows first service or oil change isn't for another 7.5k miles
