Keyfob battery change
Hi all
Does anyone know if you need to ke-code the keyfob after a battery change.
I have just changed my battery and the keyfob does not work.
I also have the following fault codes, but these have been there for a while
00955 - Key 1
09-00 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed
00956 - Key 2
09-00 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed
They mean that the key needs re-coding, though they have been working up till now wothout any problems

I recently took mine apart to check the batteries. Voltage was still OK so just put it back together. Still worked fine. Don't know if this helps, but suggests that a recode should not be required. I did notice that the assembly was a bit naff so maybe you should open it up and check again.

Cheers Dippy, i have just re-coded it, by locking and unlocking the car within 30 sec with the key.
Not sure why the fault coded are there though as they appeared before the batteries were flat.
I think i will get VAG COM out and have a play.

The Adaption limit is for the transponder in the key, not the radio fob.
Make sure the keys are not left near the main fusebox in the house, a friend left both sets of keys near his on an 03 MY car resulting in crank but non start, using his wallet key worked fine.
This resulted in a recode via the factory.
All dash insert replacements must be carried out at a centre now due to new rules from the factory.
Previously a code could be provided by Milton Keynes but now the Diag kit is linked to the factory for immobiliser reset and radio codes. If this link goes down, even the centre cant reprog your car.
All down to the scumbags who try to steal the cars we work so hard for.

Prawn ran VAGcom on mine on Saturday to see if there was anything logged on mine. Nothing.Zip. Zilch. I have no alarm no central locking from the key fob. Any ideas? Anyone fancy taking a look
Seriously, is it worth taking it to Audi.....Will they find anything i don,t already know. Or am i better taking it to a specialist.....?

If you were able to eliminate the advice given on your thread, go to you centre and ask them to check the S contact input to the CL pump as you think its preventing the fob from working.
Quick test of fob :Ignition on with spare key, close door, lock door with radio fob key in the door lock and push lock button, if the indicators flash, the radio fob is working. NB this is the start of prog mode and will delete the fob previously held in position 1 but as they dont work anyway not a prob. Dont do this folks if its working ok or you may find your other radio fob wont work. There is more to this proceedure but please dont ask what it is due to security issues. (Only a quick test yea)Or you could prog your fob into a friends S4 to see if it works.
Fault is 99% going to be the CL ecu thinking the key is in the ignition (does not need to be on) which will disable the radio operation of the alarm. Lets look at your facts. Both stopped working at the same time, replacing the batteries didnt work.
I assume the central locking works both off the key and the interior lock button, which just leaves the radio function at fault. Both keys at same time failing very unlikely. There is probably a MVB for the S contact in the CL ecu but dont know what is is.
In the unfortunate 1% its gonna be the pump.
If you want to do it the crude way, ask to borrow a pump from a local friend with an S4 the same as yours.

How about 3 keys for the same vehicle, mine, my GF's and the wallet keyMorpheous wrote:Yes there is a small chance they could fail. Are you saying that my keys could stop working?
This fault can be flagged up if there is another transponder key on your keyring for another vehicle.

Yes this could cause this DTC also, not sure if you are aware, the key transponder allows the car to set various settings in the car when it sees the key.
Later cars have more functions but the most used is the temperature setting on the ac.
Put one key in and set the ac temp to cold, remove key.
Put the other key in and set to hot, then put the first key in, you will see the ac temp automatically set the temp to cold.
It recognises the key and sets things like memory seats/mirrors etc on newer cars.
Think the newer stuff is set from the radio fob rather than the transponder, so when you unlock the car, the seat will move to correct position for the driver who last used that key.
