If you can't go to the track, bring the track to you.

Re: Lotus Elise Drive
I actually found a horse on one of the slower sections and that made me think. There are loads of sheep that mill about and that's a worry but in Wales I guess that's to be expected.

Re: Lotus Elise Drive
Right road and right mood and it's bliss.
As an aside, interesting to see you drive with thumbs on the wheel rather than round. Quite rare to see in my experience but bang on though. No broken thumbs if you hit anything or similar
Although I've never got on with 10-2 hand positioning - I've found it quite tiring and over exaggerates things making it seem a bit twitchy. Classic 9-3 for me although your results may vary

Re: Lotus Elise Drive
I find that without power steering the steering wheel can 'snatch' with only one hand on it - I'll have to try the 9-3 position. I think the wheel size makes a huge difference to where your hands are. My father taught me to drive and he was a 37 year veteran Police Traffic Officer - one of the old school ones unlike these young guys I see today. He was always respectful to the public as they paid his wages, he was very working class - I guess some of the things he taught me are still there.

Re: Lotus Elise Drive
Ah that explains the thumbs - I've only seen people do that who were taught (correctly in my mind) or through experience of a crash
Yeah the wheel does have a mind if its own - for me I find letting it have a little freedom tends to iron out the rough bit. When I first had one I held the wheel way too tight and it was knackaring. Once I realised 'hey, this is just like a kart' it became much easier.
For most corners taken at speed I find that 9-3 gives a slightly better range of movement before having to reposition your hands.
But something like this is a very personal choice and I've seen some drivers with techniques I find frankly baffling but no denying the results

Re: Lotus Elise Drive
I'll try the looser grip - I like the Kart analogy. It was a bit tiring tbh, thanks for the advice. And those seats DAMN I need to get some Probax ones quickly!

The best seats I ever had were te 340R ones.TimDogg wrote:I'll try the looser grip - I like the Kart analogy. It was a bit tiring tbh, thanks for the advice. And those seats DAMN I need to get some Probax ones quickly!
Can't recall the make - probax definitely have a good rep.
It's never goin to be comfortable though as the high foot height relative to your arse puts more pressure on the backside.
Re: Lotus Elise Drive
The seats aren't cheap though, I might just try the lumbar support in different positions - on a positive note I won a car cover for it last night on eBay - showroom cover for £70 - IN!

Re: Lotus Elise Drive
Very nice, they don't look a million miles off the 211 seats with the harness cut outs (don't later Exiges have these 211 seats too?)

Re: Lotus Elise Drive
Very similar to the Exige Sport seats which are now in the loft, I didn't want to butcher those so those were the best option for me.
Re: Lotus Elise Drive
Good to hear you are bonding with Lotus Tim, great vid too.
Re: Lotus Elise Drive
It's taken me a while - those seats look awesome. I saw the road when I was flying and thought I'd check it out - I found another one today and will take the RS this time as it has longer stretches although it is somewhat remote (near to the EVO triangle) - hopefully I'll put another vid together
