Clutch pedal held at half way point briefly-master cylinder?

Post by Ponyboy » Fri Sep 27, 2013 5:41 pm

Hmmm, yesterday I really gave the S4 some beans, probably the hardest I have driven from standstill ever (having only had the car amonth) and bewteen the transition from 1st to 2nd the clutch pedal only came back fromt he floor half way...

it was very wierd. I didn't do it again in any other gears or later from first to second. There was a very faint smell of burnt clutch(!) only very faint though, but it worried me senseless. The fact I floored it rather abruptly made me feel like I had abused the car, which makes me feel sad :(

I have checked the net today and this points to the master cyclinder, apparently. Although a lot of peole saying that this happened to them once opr twice but without long term problems.

Should I get it checked?

Never heard of it on the S4 before tbh. Could be as simple as needs fluid changing or could be new clutch needed.
Current car: 2007 BMW 530d touring.
Previous car: 2005 S4 B7.

mine does this quite a lot, and has done for over 3 years.. my car had 23k on the clock when i bought it, and now is at 70k.

happens more often when either launching hard or down shifting hard. i was told the S4 clutch is designed to do this, as the US market arent the best "stick" drivers...

Out of interest, how many miles has your clutch done?

I am assuming it is on it's original clutch... 63,500 miles(!)
