Age old tyre question
I'm looking into getting a new set of tyres and was pretty much convinced that I was going down the Goodyear F1 route but I had a conversation with the guys who were doing my tracking who all raved about the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta so much so, the guy who owns the place has a new RS3 and has swapped out the tyres it came with for a set of these? Anyone tried these out/compared them to the Goodyears/could make (another) recommendation?
Cheers

Re: Age old tyre question
A quick search would have answered your question
Lots of us have run the Vreds. Very good in wet or dry, but harder tyre walls make the ride slightly harsher, and they are a bit noisier than the GY.
They are however cheaper.
I ran 275x30 R19 - worked fine with Ol Knobbly gone - may need him to go in standard size too, as do the GY F1's
There - that saved you a search!

The Vreds always get good reviews in the big German tyre tests, I have never tried them but may well do when I change mine. Be good to hear how you get on if you get them.

Re: Age old tyre question
After close inspection yesterday with the wheels off the dreaded knobbly has bitten both front tyres.
I've just ended up spending 3hours on the ramps doing the knobbly mod with the intention of fitting Goodyears and yet again (this has happened several times to me), come tyre replacement Goodyear are out of stock at most wholesalers bar 1 tyre here and there.
It seems they are always slow to restock and never give possible delivery dates so rather than wait days/weeks/months
I've been offered Conti SP5s for the same price and so will have to fit them at £750.

Re: Age old tyre question
A few places are doing fuel vouchers with Michelin tyres. A chap at work got £50 fuel voucher when he bought 2 tyres and he'd have got more off with 3 or 4 tyres.

Re: Age old tyre question
Thanks for confirming what was niggling me. I rang up to cancel the Contis first and the lad I normally deal with had managed to get 4 Goodyears in alongside the SP5s and was going to give me the choice in the morning.Shoppinit wrote:Nooooooooo! Not the contis!
That and a 4 wheel track for free so I can't complain. He had to source from 4 different wholesalers to get a set so I'm a tad grateful to him.
Off topic slightly while perusing the search function earlier (An odd comment from a relative newb); I was reading of people just changing 2 tyres? Or alternatively 4 different tyres on each corner. Doesn't 3mm tread wear difference front to rear and/or different tread wear patterns wind the Torsen diff up? Only a friend who is a Master Audi Tech assured me it was asking for trouble over a prolonged period of time!
