Bubble burst...

Post by lengster1 » Sun Sep 15, 2013 7:31 pm

Seen this the other week, first time I'd seen blue in the flesh and wasn't impressed at all,I've gone right off a b8 given there no better than my b7,gearbox aside there a step back in many areas not a step forwards.

But that's entirely dependant on what the customer, personally, is requiring of the car
I agree that some wont find it the step on from a B7 in dynamic ability, but then if I wanted a dynamically great V8 car, I'd have bough an M3

After my B7, I was a bit disappointed initially with the steering, but now I'm used it it, I don't find it to be bad

However, in other areas it's miles better
I miss the noise of my B7 too as my B8, although with the sports exhaust, seems to have lost some its NASCAR soundtrack

Have yourself a few days with a B8 and I'd guess you'd soon warm to it

That just goes to show how subjective the matter is, as I thought that's quite a cool looking car with the shadow wheels and the blue (although I'd sack off the grandad style chrome trim :biggrin3: )

I NEED it to handle well on testing back roads like we're I live, but they just don't have the same reassuring feel of the b7 at a pace,I drove a mates at 80% of what I can in my b7 and I wouldn't of liked to try a 100% run.Steering had no feel at all and too firm to nail it as early as I can the b7,utterly gutless until seriously raping the nuts off it.gearbox will make up for some of that but I don't want to have to drive like that just to keep ahead of run of the mill cars.Fair comment on more time in one but you've got to like the look of it in the first place, silver is the only colour I think it looks well in.I seriously had to have a good look round the blue one to see if it wasn't an 's' model

I know it's not ideal, but you do get used to the steering

I'd disagree about the performance though as my B8 is faster than my B7 was and gearbox gets you to the sweetspot in the revs much quicker than you could with a stick
B7 felt artificially quick due to 5.5k kick, but actually B8 is a stronger pulling car
Around a track, I wouldn't say there's much in it though

Problem is lengsters B7 is pushing same power as a B8.

Std vs std...the B8 is miles faster as its probably pushing c.50ps more if you believe the rolling roads.

I do like the B8's symmetrical air intakes - very Ferrari and necessary for getting the air in.
In comparison the B7 looks like the drummer from Def Leppard
the B8 is heavier and number of options available is far greater so variance between published and actual kerb weight would skew any power to weight ratio comparisons.
But who really cares about a few bhp/ton? Nice steering can be enjoyed all the time and within the law, a few extra bhp are pretty pointless - if I had to choose between em it would take less time than stealing a B8!

Isn't one of the reasons for low power(apart from carbon!!) on the B7, the amount of air (or lack of it) it could get into the engine?

B8 intakes have sorted this hence more power?

Yes! Thats what I meant!
Maybe to do this ze engineers relocated the power steering and f**ked it up in the process :)

Sorry couldn't disagree with you more about the looks the B7 looks tame in comparison to the B8 see the thread http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 2&start=15 the dynamics are on par the gear box blows the B7 out of the water if autos are this good why oh why would you have a manual steering is,a bit marmite but now I have had the car 4k miles I do like the weighted feel but hey not everyones cup of tea
